That's a great car for the money, but how do you see whereabouts in the country it is? I don't use ebay, I get dh to do it anytime I want anything...

eta sorry just noticed it says London. I'm tired, I missed that bit before. Doh!

Not sure if this works but you can get ebay to list items by distance from a postcode, it rounds to the nearest 5 miles but I reckon with a bit of triangulation followed by searching within a fixed 5 mile radius you could probably narrow down the sellers location to within a couple of miles...

Also worth typing the reg in to webuyanycar and seeing how much they will offer both to check the price and as a useful bargaining chip. Obviously more effective for a private seller than a garage.

How about this, bargain hard and you should get it for £900 but prob worth paying for an inspection.
My first car was made by this firm and I drove it for a couple of years around many a road that Nikkster might recognise .

Its unreliability immunised me against ever spending a penny on one of their cars ever again.

Having said that i've no bias against cars from either of our other two former Axis enemies and currently have one from each.:)

Don't forget to use auctionsniper though, if you do go for it.

But to get an equivalent German car you pay a lot more or end up with higher mileage and/or older so not necessarily any cheaper to run...

Most banks you have to wait 7 days before a cheque clears so as long as the person who's account it is drawn on notices in that time I guess the funds can be frozen before they get moved on.

Lucky this didn't happen when you were on holiday SC.

I don't get how they make a gain, if the funds are always stopped before the money is spent.

A friend of mine had something similar done. Strangely by a person in a similar position of strust, but they think it wasn't them, but their partner. In that instance some money did go as the cheques were smaller so it took a while to catch up. Makes you wonder if they would have got away with more money in your case if they hadn't been so greedy about values. As I understand it you can also take a cheque that has already been written, and adjust the value or the person who it is to through using a chemical solution, though not being a member of the criminal underground, I have not a clue how you would do this without being caught.

Every sympathy Silvercar - are you satisfied that nothing else is missing and your keys/locks are secure?

I never give out keys. But some rummaging in draws has taken place, so anything is possible, though I haven't noticed anything missing.

Not if you pay them into dodgy peoples' accounts!

If you took a cheque from someone that you knew was a dodgy cheque, you pay it in to your account without worrying what the signature looks like. The money is then in someone else's account and can be paid out with a matching signature and bank card.

Am I terribly naive? I thought the bank was supposed to check the signature. I assumed that the culprit in this case had got examples of the signature and done a convincing forgery. It can't be the responsibility of the person paying the cheque in to check the signature, surely, because you can send cheques by post, and the recipient hasn't the faintest idea what your signature ought to look like.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

As I know some NP will be interested, I have the hosts of the Eurovision in front of me now.

I'll be in Malmo on Monday, and can't tell you until then.
