Luckily I am now in the direct line of fire of an aircon unit, thank god.
35C is hot and is above the starting point of properly uncomfortable.
The way I dealt with the heat before acclimatising was:
- Shower 3 times a day (first thing, before dinner, before bed)
- Drink tons and tons of water and never drink alcohol before 6pm
- Eat chilies as they make you crave water
- Get into the air con and out of the sun for a part of the hottest chunk of the day. A 2pm film is a good idea.
- Only tourists and teenagers go to the beach after 9am and before 4pm.
- Slip, slop, slap.
Now I do exactly the same stuff as it makes me feel more comfortable.0 -
Merry Christmas NPs!

You have my genuine sympathy, I cannot bare humid heat over a certain temperature - 25C according to other half and I lose it.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Much prefer the cold myself. Never happier than when trudging through snow. Not for skiing or anything but just because it seems like the right background temperature. Love visiting Canada. You have my genuine sympathy, I cannot bare humid heat over a certain temperature - 25C according to other half and I lose it.
DW would love to visit Oz but I'd like it to be if not a one-off then a rare type of holiday.;)
London's a decent comrpromise. The snow rarly lies here but you don't have much risk of heatstroke I suppose.
Just enjoyed a Dr Who episode that kept reminding me of an old series about abominable snowmen and sure enough they make the link at the end of the episode. Looking forward to next years 50th anniversary series! :beer:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
:santa2:Wishing all the NP's a happy Xmas...have been awol as my home laptop died and I try not to bring one home too often.
Obviously, as a very disciplined self employed person (:) ) I rarely log on @ work as I would just lose my entire day nattering and pottering about on MSE.
I hope to hang out more in the NY as I miss you all...and the banter.
Lots of news, the front of my house came off and went back on but we are 50% breeze block shell so spent the day @ my dads (which is nearly finished....OH has spent 10 years on it but it was a long term renovation project that started in 1961)

Chewy is down under at the moment.. Don't ask
Lir is having hot and cold flushes, due to her new heating system problems
Gen is reminiscing about London but also loving the heat of Sydney at Christmas. I think he's confused a bit
PN is unable to connect at the moment but "safe"
zag is taking on android but we don't know who is winning yet
viva has her man where she wants him....again, don't ask
All the rest of us are fine and dandy off the top of my head.
Merry Christmas BTW :A0 -
Finally home from mum and dad's, blooming knackered.
I got a toaster! Yippee, I can join the 'normal' people at last...
And yes, I did ask for one, it wasn't a joke or insensitive pressie, I did actually want one after discovering one on holiday this year and finding out how much easier it made things.
Also got perfume, lots of choccies, a CD, a blanket, necklace (youngest was so proud to tell me it cost £2.99 from a charity shop where he did all his shopping)and other bits and pieces. Weirdest or most unexpected present was one from my ex husband and his wife....they have never bought me one before, they even got my mum and dad a present!
I am pooped though, been helping mum and dad doing the dinner, the table, serving etc whilst certain others did nothing. Got annoyed with my brother who decided that because he was finished, he was going to start collecting plates up and start the washing up....me, sister in law and youngest were still eating (this was our main course!) and mid fork full, sister in law had to get up to allow him to pass.
I absolutely detest people moving about whilst I am eating and think it is the height of rudeness. I have no idea why he does it, we had the same upbringing with the same education in table manners and table etiquette.
The boys were brilliant, so helpful all day long, even if youngest did have to take himself off upstairs for extended periods but he did at least join us for dinner and spent just a little more time with us than he did last year....give him another 20 years and he might make it a whole afternoon :rotfl:We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

cool....glad everyone is well...I always worry if I go awol a while and someone had A Bad Thing happen to them....then I don't know and barge in all insensitive.
How's things all the s's?
Nice pressy list SS.
We went pressy-lite this year as we have decided to buy a house down (in) Margate. Slight snag is we can't get a mortgage (as 2nd resi ones are now banned) and we don't want to use it as a BTL or a formal holiday let. Consequently, the fat deposit we saved up is now got to be the entire budget.
It's scary but fun too....as Gen said in another post somewhere else on the board.....got to push to know how far one can go (or similar).0 -
..just a thought before I GTB. Having had a mosey around the rest the board I am glad I had a little rest as some it makes you want to just go hide in a cave :-)
I'm glad ML didn't close it down though.0
