I don't think Custardy has been rude. He's been very helpful.

It's all in the reading ;)

How do I find out my local head honcho's name?

    well thats the issue
it isnt a contactable person for Joe public
however if you can find out by google, asking a local postie or whatever
    their email will be 1stname.lastname@royalmail.com
it is possible. I once had a jewelers that was a regular Saturday shut.
So we retained all SDs for Monday delivery unless they paid for Saturday delivery
Turns out one Saturday he decided to open for once as he was expecting a bespoke piece
contaced the sector manager on Saturday
    loads of phonecalls/emails
The DO was opened on Sunday,a manager then cae and collected the SD,before driving 20 miles to deliver it.
Try that with customer services ;)

So I google the name of the town where my sorting office is and 'manager'?

I know he's on leave for two weeks.

Or should I go to our regional town? I think in my case it would be Chelmsford? What is the job title of the person I want?

well the sector manager covers large regions
you will be lucky to find them via google
the title you want is "Royal Mail Collections & Delivery Sector Manager"
for Chelmsford that gave me http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/dean-woodroof/38/4b4/330
asking a postie for a name is another solution
