Sent RD Royal Mail says delivered - it wasnt

I bought an item on eBay and after a week chased the seller as I hadn't received it. He gave me a Royal Mail tracking number that says the item was delivered to my address on the 29th of September.

We did have some mail that day but nothing Recorded Delivery and I did see the postman (not our usual post lady) delivering further up the street when I went to buy a paper.

I went to our local sorting office and they couldn't find the item either and have said they will speak to the postman tomorrow when he's back at work. They also say they can look up the signature of who signed for it. There's only me and my husband here and it definitely wasn't one of us. I've loked in all the usual places that mail is usually left (behind bushes, etc.) and it's not there. The parcel would have been small enough to put through the letter box.

My question is, what happens if Royal Mail says it was delivered and I say it wasn't? It's only about £10 but nevertheless.

Stick the tracking number in https://www.royalmail.com/trackdetails to see if it gives you any more info which could help.

Be persistent with your delivery office in making the complaint.

The tracking details say it was delivered on the 29th from my local sorting office. No option to see a signature though.

The woman in the sorting office did say that RM could see all signatures.

I'll have to see what the postman says tomorrow.

Delivered no signature? Not to our house it wasn't.

What's the point of having Recorded Delivery if it's not signed for?

How can I prove I don't have it? Is it my word against the postmans? It's a pair of womens' shorts worth £8 plus postage.

    I'm a bit :O

    Thats not a recorded,its a Tracked item
Sales order generated is more likely an update from the client/sales end. not RM
nothing untoward with regards to the tracking
They are scanned in as ready for delivery,0624 is a normal time
out on the street and scanned as delivered
So if the DO doesnt have it(you can get issues with tracking defaulting to auto delivered if its not scanned on day of delivery)
Then the DO is right that they need to speak to the postie and confirm whats going on.

Very helpful, Custardy. I will await a call from the delivery office. I'll keep you posted (if you'll pardon the pun).

    Custardy is right.

Sales order raised, is a bill on scan, so either RMT or RMTND, both items don't need a signature unless the sender requested. I use both services and although they are excellent, they are not foolproof and I have had one or two blips in 5 years.

Go back to the delivery office and be adamant that the item is not delivered.
