  • Hey Scuff, hope you don't mind but I have *subscribed*!

I'm in a similar stituation with the snowball calculator, mine's with a credit card though so I have just worked out something rough. I know I can't rely on the figures 100%, but I've over estimated so that I will end up paying off the debt sooner than the calculator says rather than later :) Don't know if this is something you could do. If its £1.00 a day for a max of 10 days (so £10 a month!), you could do like 1% interest which would work out more than £10 a month but would be a rough idea?

Good luck on your debt free journey!!

Thanks HI, I never thought of that!! I used to make up photo collages on Picasa before clothes were free to list, but they're too big to upload now :( AND I've already done a listing tonight for my only '1 photo only' item, I should have waited for your good old advice!!

Hi CandyCupcake :hello:happy to have you here, if you can cope with my witterings (I've noticed I get carried away and write a story every post!!) I tried doing the 'pretend it's interest' thing but then obvs as my amount decreases, so does the interest, but in actual fact when I get it to say -£20, I'll be paying 50% interest! So don't know how this works? Am I being really stupid??!

Right, let's see where I am with my list
    - EBAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This must must must must MUST be done!! In progress 5/19 items listed
    - [STRIKE]Clean out the hamster[/STRIKE] (also need to figure out a way of buying his stuff cheaper, we have to buy a bag of bedding every week!)
    - [STRIKE]Washing (trying to be more organised with this cos I end up over loaded with no clothes, got new wardrobes which have improved things but still stresses me out as daft as it seems!)[/STRIKE] Woop empty wash-basket!!
    - Ironing (as above) :naughty:I'll add this onto tomorrow's list
    - Try to get to £10 on Valued Opinions (at £8 now) Not had any surveys come through AT ALL :(
    - [STRIKE]Sort out box of already bought Christmas presents, figure out what I need (although I wont be buying soon it always helps to know!)[/STRIKE]
    - Go through joint and see what we can save here / what we can put into savings that's left over (currently we manage to totally spend - sometimes more than- £1400 pm, rent is £550 but this really needs bringing down, need to figure out how we do this cos we're pretty good at batch cooking / meal planning etc [although this is a recent in past few months thing]) Not done yet, will do before next big shop (also need to figure out what 'although this is a recent in past few months thing' means?!)
    - Take cancel gym letters to gym (I've had them written for 2 weeks!!!!) TOMORROW

Going to list a couple more things on ebay before it gets too late, and then watch TV and off to bed nice and early (NO SLEEPING IN!!!!)

  • I like your witterings :) your diary is very motivating, not just in relation to paying off debts but in other ways too. I love your little lists too! I do this all the time, scraps of paper all over the house with to do lists :P

I think with the 'guestimation' interest you probably would have to adjust it quite often ie.

OD amount £1200 - interest at 1% would be £12.00
OD amount £1000 - interest at 1% would be £10.00 - these would be OK although the snowball calculator would not be as low as your actual overdraft if that makes sense.

Then you would need to adjust it...
OD amount £800 - interest at 1.3% would be £10.40.

The other option would be to knock £10 off what you have actually paid off your overdraft and put 0% interest. So if you are paying £200 a month off the overdraft, note that you are only paying £190 as this would compensate for the £10 charge

    Hope this helps

Man this cold weather makes me want new boots. And my hair makes me want a haircut. Resolve is crumbly today, I should've left my purse at home! I'll restrain myslef though!
On a positive note, two of the things I put on ebay last night have got bids already, only 99p but still I'm impressed!

    Today I need to:
-Ring taster day course I bought on wowcher ages ago, before it expires
-Ring RBS to change the direct debit on my CC, so I can put more money into OD1
    -Have a NSD
-Put rest of items on ebay (5/19 so far)
    -Put 2 vinyls on amazon
    -Ironing
    -Bit of exciting housework..

Think that's it. I bought my mum a spa day for her 50th a few weekends ago (so obv paid for etc) but that set me back £170, meaning I don't really have any spare money to throw at my totals other than anything I sell. This means I can't do any exciting total changes like other people :( Desperate for next payday so I can start doing this, like rounding down etc! (NO NEW BOOTS!)

    Hiya Scuff,

Very quick post (will update my thread later tonight when I'm back), but if you get any spare time try having a look on property websites and check out some houses. I was doing this absent-mindedly yesterday and came across THE building that I want to buy my flat in. It's seriously amazing and has sorted my head right into the saving mindset. I've got a tight timescale in my head to go for and everything. So no new boots unless yours have holes in!

Enjoy spa day though, need something to look forward to with all this saving and debt busting!

I already had the spa day :( nothing to look forward to haha (except being debt free!!!!!) It was lovely though, even if I don't feel relaxed anymore, and mum enjoyed it which made it worthwhile!! Plus I've had 3 emails advertising BOOTS. The beggars haha trying to tempt me! I'm being good though!
Re new houses, I had to stop looking, I was even looking on my lunch at work and people would pass me getting excited cos they thought I was getting a house, and I wasnt haha. Super exciting that you've found a place you want to move to though!!! It's good having a material goal to spur you on too, I know in the past I've tried to start paying stuff off but because at the time I had no long term plans I just thought why am I suffering when I can just not notice minimum payments, before I knew it I was back in same situation. What's the place like??

Did quite well yesterday with my list:

-[STRIKE]Ring taster day course I bought on wowcher ages ago, before it expires[/STRIKE] booked for 7th November, gives me something to look forward to :)
-[STRIKE]Ring RBS to change the direct debit on my CC, so I can put more money into OD1[/STRIKE]
    -[STRIKE]Have a NSD[/STRIKE]
-Put rest of items on ebay (5/19 so far)
    -[STRIKE]Put 2 vinyls on amazon[/STRIKE]
    -Ironing
    -Bit of exciting housework..

Everything that needed doing at home I failed with cos by the time I got home I was feeling awful and grumpy, slept, ate and watched a film, and that was pretty much it. I did manage to get £25 off our electricity direct debit though (it was £150pm ) which is a bonus!

I've also set myself the task of finishing all my unread books before christmas. If I actually make the effort to read, this should be easy as I'm a fast reader, but since starting work I can never be bothered to pick one up :o

Right, off to read for 20 mins (and eat my 'lovely' sweet and sour and rice I brought in. I'll pretend it's sushi!)

Definitely not a NSD today, had to get my Grandad a birthday card and didn't bring any lunch in either so supermarket sushi it was! Together with juice for my chugg (£30) that meant a lunchtime spend of £35. I feel so guilty! I don't like it! Funny thing is I used to do that more than 3 days out of 5 (except the petrol of course!) and not think anything of it. Don't think I've been back at my desk so fast since I started!

We're also going out for tea, OH family, and we're paying £15 each out of our own money, and the rest from the joint. That brings todays total up to £50!!!!! ERGH.

Payday is just under 2 weeks away (23rd) and I think I've done something slightly wrong with my budget cos I'm running a bit short, but in honesty I'm pretty impressed with my NSDs (7 so far this month, and I plan to keep it up) and my change in attitude is crazy! So pre payday I'm going to have another serious look where I've potentially gone a bit awry and all should be well. It's not a bad miscalculation but obviously it needs to be corrected.
Nearly time for a £10 survey voucher yay! So that will go in the Christmas pressies pot!

Halfway through book #1, going to count up how many I have unread and add it to my sig I thinks :)

Best get back to work!! Leaving at 4 so I can be home in time to leave for yummy tea :)
