Well, I'm still annoyed but slightly less so (after spending a good hour or so poring over paperwork) Tax-men decided I owed them £460+, which I'm having none of - it's for the year 2011/12 (I started at my current job March 2011) and in this time they have me down for £2300 of JSA, which hasn't been taken into account with respect to my tax allowance. I'll tell you why Mr Tax-man: BECAUSE I DIDN'T BLIMMIN' CLAIM A PENNY OF JSA IN THAT TIME, LET ALONE £2K+!!!!!!!
It annoyed me. The other thing that annoyed me wrt HMRC, is that they sent the letter to my Dad's, even though all my payslips for the past 18 months have had this address on it. The whole family could have moved out of Dad's house, and THEN I'd be none the wiser that they were trying to rob me! Going to give them a ring on Monday & see what they're playing at!!!!!!! Hopefully it is just a mistake (otherwise I'll be arghing again!) Can't see how it could be right tbh!
On a positive note, I've baked provisions for lunches: 2 malt loaves (one for cupboard, one for freezer), a tray of flapjack, and tomorrow I'll make some
quiche and soup. Hopefully this should provide me with lunches for at least a week (if not longer)
Oh, and it's FRRRIIIIIIDAYYYYY
Happy weekend everyone! Well, everyone except the tax-man!!September 2016 GC £21.37/£1200 -
What has the address on your payslips got to do with the address Hmrc have you down at?
A few similar queries re JSA on cutting tax board, if you have your P45 from when you signed off - March 2011? - it should be easy to resolve0 -
Oh, I just presumed that they were aware of my address based on where the person paying me / calculating my tax payments - I guess this isn't the case! It's the first letter I've had from them since I moved out, so it was just an assumption on my part!
I thought it should be ok, it was just my initial shock at opening the post to say 'you owe £460' ! I just don't have a clue where this figure has come from, let alone why it's in that years calc's. I have all my paperwork so as you say, should be easy to resolve. We'll find out Monday!September 2016 GC £21.37/£1200 -
Dont assume anything with HMRC
Hope you get it sorted - I have an ongoing thing with them getting my professional and union fees sorted against my tax - I let them know every year the changes and every year they get it wrong...........for the last 10 years! So I will join you in an AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH

Any joy with HMRC?
Hope so scuff - it makes me so mad, they seem to pluck figures out of the air that we owe them. I had similar problems with tax credit overpayments for years finally got it sorted last year - its a real nightmare trying to call them and sort it out.
Good luck.

Hey Homemade sorry I completely ignored you in my tizzy about the tax! You should definitely get playing, I love my sewing machine, it's the inanimate object I'd save if my flat set on fire - hypothetically speaking, it's too heavy for me to do anything with it other than pick up (with both hands!) totter 2 steps and then put it back down againdon't be scared of it anyway, it can only go as fast as you press the pedal, so be gentle (and keep your fingers out of the way of the needle
) and just have a go - you'll be amazed how quickly you can whizz something up. Maybe try a cushion to begin with, as these are just straight lines & nothing complicated - you don't even have to do any zip related things if you do an envelope back (like this)

When I've worked it out it's a year's worth of JSA that they've decided I've claimed, whilst working full time  they then instructed that despite the fact I have my P45, I had to get written proof from Jobcentre Plus that I didn't receive any benefits in that tax year. Does anybody have any idea how hard it is to get proof you DIDN'T get benefits?! (Just to confirm - very!) You'd think I was asking for some thing in another language!!!!! Anyway after getting cut off and wasting 30 mins, I rang again, sat on hold for a further 20 mins, and then talked to a lovely gentleman who sorted it out within seconds, hopefully the letter is in the post!! Although I do have to wait until at the earliest March 8th to find out if it goes through successfully! Man alive!!
Anyway, in other news, sorry I've been super lazy with my diary again - had a half productive weekend - batch cooking soup, quiche, flap jack, malt loaf and bread for work lunches - half not so productive (but equally as important!) - reading pretty much the entirety of Frugal Queen's blog (truly inspiring, I take my hat off to her, although I don't think I would have the resolve to do half the things she does!) I managed to eventually pay my £10 worth of 20pences into the bank (had to do some shuffling - HSBC (OD1) cashier desks aren't open on a Sat here so had to pay it into OD2 & then transfer over) I actually transferred £9.48 over as I (guiltily) bought some new trousers for work (£25  - ps I would never have thought '' at £25 before, but when you only have £44+pence left 'allowance' & 3 weeks to go, £25 is defo:eek: haha) this left me with £19.48 in my allowances, so I treated myself to the 52p meaning I can take the £20 out for tea tomorrow (another guilt
although I am in fact forfeiting a haircut which I desperately need - my hair was cropped but now looks decidedly toddlery
) this will leave me with a grand total of £0 spending money till 23rd Feb, but there's nothing I need so I don't see a problem!
Think that is all - I'm off to make a papercut for my friend's wedding anniversary, hope everyone is wellxx

Not much to report on a personal debt paying off style MSE, hence the lack of posts! I am up to 3 NSDs (just thought it was 4 but then realised I bought some chocolate buttons today as I was putting petrol in!) So £30.59 spent on chugg-juice and scuff-choc!
On Wednesday morning I managed to spill scalding hot just-out-of-the-microwave-ready-to-make-my-ready-brek-with milk all over my hand, leaving me with a sore hand and a rumbly tummy (as after I'd cleaned it all up it was time to go to work SAD FACE) Obviously my immediate post scald reaction was to run my hand under the cold tap, but as our boiler seems to run RIDICULOUSLY HOT, I managed to half scald myself even more. Unimpressed, I decided to try and figure out if I could control the temperature on the boiler, so Thursday night (we were out Weds) I messed around in the boiler cupboard / washing machine cupboard / place I pretend is the utility 'room', found the thermostats (they were at 60, pretty standard) but I did find that the boiler had been on boost since we moved in. In August. 2011... Obviously this overlooking on our part will not have been cheap!!!!!!!!!! This then lead to me looking at our online electricity account thingy today, and I discovered that our average daily consumption for Jan is 34kWh!!!!!!!! Thats around 3 times as much as the average household apparently, and cost of £130+ per month (our DD for the electric is currently £125 anyway, but I thought we were paying over!!)
Needless to say, other than turning the boost off (which will have accounted for a lot of this I hope) today has been spent turning lights & plug sockets off haha. We need need NEED to get this figure down so we can have more money to throw at the flat deposit, and I think it should be easy-ish to do. Just to add, it's a 2 bed all electric flat, so currently the electric heaters won't be doing the bill any good either..
This evening has all in all been super productive. I have:
Put all the (clean!) pants and socks, that have been loitering around the lounge/kitchen for days, away.
Swept, hoovered and mopped the kitchen floor
Emptied the bin, washed it out and bleached it
Cleaned the bin cupboard out
Cleaned the microwave out / under the microwave where I found some of my spilt milk still lingering
Cleaned out under the sink
Cleared the table, washed the tablecloth and now it's drying behind me
Reswept the floor after OH cooked dinner
The end. Other things I could do to do this weekend arrreee:
Sort lounge bookshelves
Sort office 'storage' cupboard (read 'place in which everything is literally shoved and opening it is to fear for your life' )
Hoover
Finish friend's papercut
Take recycling down
Weekends are so rock and roll eh.. and tbh I quite like it this way :PSeptember 2016 GC £21.37/£1200
