Really excited about xmas shopping - done a fair bit already, got a few stocking fillers and friends presents in the sale last year. Just got the main family to get - but this is what I find so hard.

My mum never needs/wants/asks for anything - consequently she gets nightys, slippers, wine and to be honest has more than plenty of all of them. She likes practical presents, stuff for the house etc. but we've just had the house decorated and i'm all out of ideas.

Is anyone on here a practical present loving person and can perhaps help me out with what to get her? I do Avon so all the toiletries are out because my house is already full of stuff, chocolates are out, as are dvds and cds and books..............

as you can see at a total loss - does anyone have any inspiration?

my mum is the same she never gives me hints on what to get her! This year im doing her a yankee candle gift basket with candles, pot porri, room fragrance etc. This might be a good idea for you as she's just had the house decorated

How about IOUs? So if there are things she struggles with then you could do an IOU for maybe digging a flower bed for her or some such?
Or how about home made jam, chutneys, chocolate treats, christmas pud/cake, marmelades and so on?
Kinda practical and definitely infinitely more personal :)

How about a hamper with some really gorgeous luxury treats in ?
I would get her some stuff she always uses anyway like her normal teabags and tins and then pad it out with a lovely bottle of her fave bubble bath or bottle of bubbly ......you could even get it delivered to her from Tesco if you wanted (not very christmassy but very practical a gift for her)>

Agree with the yankee candle idea by shazspice-Also a nice picture in a frame, a tiffany lamp, jewellery? One of those frames with the meaning of your mums name or someone specials, a handmade memory album/scrapbook with poems, memories photos etc.
my friend got her mum a a chillow pillow and some bed linen which her mum loved.

    in terms of practical presents

I am a gardener (or try to be) so a basket with maybe a trowl, gardening gloves, seeds, bulbs, (all at a discount from home bargains, B&Q are reducing, so too are asda and tesco) starter pots saw half price in wilkos) and maybe a gift voucher in the middle for when the weather warms up.

how about a soap maker for all those slivers of used soap.

start a new hobby, maybe cake making with recipe and ingredients in a big kilner jar

    or candle making, card making.

    Just a few ideas

I am cooking this pud as i type, it is in the slow cooker, and it smells wonderful.

I've sent a PM to ask for the recipe, just wondered how yours came out?

Actually might be a bad idea making one in mine, it's a big 6.5 litre one, did you have to put it inside something to cook it in there?

:o Can you tell I have no idea at all

rosieben when I was on benefits I remember an officer coming out when £2000 was paid into my bank account, it was from the sale of a motorbike which was sold to clear finance (paid straight back out) they said because it was over £1000 it was 'flagged' but wasn't a problem if it was a sale of something we owned. I did offer for them to pay the finance then I'd give them it, finance was £500 on top, he declined :D what a suprise.
One day I might be more organised...........
