page 23 is the last page of this thread at the moment; some threads are showing higher page numbers that dont exist, part of the recent server problems which has meant rebuilding parts of the site.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Hi guys can I ask for some inspiration please as my brain has decided not to cooperate...
I want to make a hamper for a friend who doesn't cook much but really wants to learn. She has a lovely kitchen with lots of the things (pans, utensils etc) but the cupboards are quite bare and she is often missing key spices/sauces etc for recipes.
I got a small set of measuring spoons and was thinking of getting some spices and herbs in a local Asian deli.
Any suggestions as to extra bits I can put in? She loves stir fries, so I was thinking a tin of coconut milk and some extra bits so she can make a dish for her boyfriend as she's keen to impress him.
I just want it to be a mix of practical and fun too, something that even past Christmas she is still using and enjoying...
Many thanks,

what about a packet of noodles theyre always great to keep in the cupboard. Rice Wine looks impressive as its a nice glass bottle. Tins of bean sprouts and baby sweetcorn. They do a really nice wok set in the Boots 3 for 2.
In Asda they do a bamboo steamer for about £3 and chopsticks really cheap
HTH and wow wish you was my friend:xmastree:Self Certified Christmas Addict:xmastree:0 -
Hiya ComputerWoman
I just wanted to say that not only did I find your posts so warm and interesting to read, but I also felt so like I wanted to just hug you and say wow you're amazing. My husband woke up one morning and couldn't walk. He had just been asked to sign as a professional wrestler and that very day I found out I was pregnant. He was only 22 and overnight our lives changed so much and everything was so hard. The thing is though, we never dwell on it because we're greatful to still be here. Sometimes it's damned annoying when pavements aren't big enough or people step over him to get things off shelves, or most annoying is when we park in disabled and people give us dirty looks just because he is young. When I read posts like yours it makes me smile inside to know that you have got such a wonderful son and to think of his face on christmas and your excitement. The way you have adapted your life has me in awe and I LOVE your fireplace. We made ours from a plank of wood i found in the attic and the carpet inner tube cut in half to go either side and marble-effect painted. LOL.
Hope you have the best christmas ever xx

What about buying her a couple of cookery books and taking a recipie out of the books putting the ingredients into a hamper. Or you could write out a couple of recipies that you would think she would like into a new blank recipe note book that she could fill up herself and buy the dry ingredients for her.0 -
Computerwoman - that's a fab fireplace there - the most DIY I can do is buy my hubby a book about DIY... for when we finally get our own place to do DIY in! Sad to aspire to such a thing ;op I am in awe and truly humbled by my lack of ability in comparison.
Thanks all for the inspiration re the cooking hamper - I will have a look about in the shops this weekend. She loved it when I showed her how to make real popcorn (not to mention how much cheaper it is) so I found a great pink melamine popcorn bowl with popcorn print on the inside which I might get for her, looks great and I can pop th eother stuff inside it. I am pretty sure a nice popcorn recipe wouldn't go amiss plus some others rolled up maybe with some ribbon round them or something. I love the Pad Thai noodle dish so was thinking that recipe plus the main ingredients. As it's her birthday around Xmas too will pop in a separate pressie for that.MFW #185

Dear computerwoman. It never ceases to amaze me how the human spirit can overcome the most serious adversity. Your courage and perseverance is a shining example to us all. Very well done and keep up the good work.
PS You couldn't pop round to our house and redecorate the stairway could you. We've got some nice ladders you could hop up
.
Have done a bit towards Christmas, like getting cards, but my DW is already posting off some of the presents to great nieces and nephews (not to be opened before Christmas, of course) and a few to some more distant relatives.
Good fortune to everbody.0
