A loan is a debt. A mortgage is a debt. loadbang said "it is against the law for a service person to have credit or be indebted", which obviously is complete nonsense.Je suis Charlie.0

It's not a real debt! It's a speculative invoice. A world of difference.0

It isn't even a debt aqs you say, a "speculative invoice". If it was, he'd be in a whole load of trouble as it is against the law for a service person to have credit or be indebted, the same is with a policeman or Church of England vicars. So yes, you can be disciplined for debt if you are in the services.
No it isnt!
I am currently serving in HM Forces.
Many of my service friends have loans, defaults, Private Parking Invoices and even some are on IVAs.
It is not against military law to be in debt.0 -
I bet the OP is regretting ever mentioning that his brother is in the RAF0

Wrong, wrong, wrong.
Just about every single serving person has debt and you cannot not be disciplined for it. As I said above, if it becomes unmanageable and you are liable to become a secuirty risk, then you can be placed on an Administrative Warning for Discharge.0
