This is the email response i got from Budget when i asked why they had taken it upon themselves to stick their keypad unit price back up to 14.81
Because of a wholesale price increase, we had to increase our price back to 14.81 which it was before the decrease on 5th October,
Please note that this wholesale price increase affects all suppliers and our price still remains cheaper than Power NI,
If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us,
I notice they said "Cheaper than Power NI" BUT left out Airtricity...0 -
Just rang Airtricity and started the switch over process- no tie in- offering 13.40 for keypad customers so definately worth changing.
Then i can stick a few healthy top-ups on there and get a good chunk of 13.4 electric before they all start sticking prices way up again!0 -
The thing is not to get too attached to any or feel loyal to ANY of the engery companies, serve yourself, go with what seems the best for the forthcoming year.
Initially I signed up with airtricity who promised great things, budget came along and it was cheaper, so I changed to them (their billing system was terrible a bill maybe after 4 or 5 mths if not longer) is better now but still no paperless billing.
I now have gone back to airtricity as I will save a nominal amout over a year with them, not a lot mind.
When the year is up I will review again and go back to budget if I can save any money.
I have to say though that overall the airtricity billing system seems better for bill pay customers.

Thanks for clarifying; I find it difficult to follow the various offers, old and new, they list. At least Budget just quote a single price
I moved from Airtricity to Budget last year, partly on price grounds, but also because of a few irritations with their customer support around billing issues. Does anyone know if I moved back would I be considered a new or an old customer from the perspective of any offers that might be available?0 -
I've just sent an E-Mail to Watchdog after their piece on Watchdog Daily.....0

Which company is the cheapest for Direct Debits? I'm with Budget at present but will happily move if others are cheaper.0

I was roughly working out our potential saving today. We're monthly DD bills with Budget paying about 50 odd quid a month. Signing up to a 1 year fixed term with Airtricity would save us very roughly about 2 quid a month at current rates - nothing to get too excited about one way or the other, saving vs lock-in.0

I don't know, £24 a year is, well £24 better in my pocket than theirs. I know if I dropped £20 in the street I'd be "excited" about picking it up.0 -

Yup....That for me would be a MONTH's 'free' electricity on the keypad.0 -

Fair enough. It's just the contrast though. At the turn of the year NIE were going to increase our monthly DD up to 70 odd so saving 20 quid a month at the time was a biggie. Saving £2 a month (but with a small 'price' of being locked in for a year when the underlying standard rate is still variable) isn't the same push.0
