I just got a text from Budget Energy saying they're reducing my unit price to 14.07p from 5th October.

Good stuff. Thats a significant drop compared to the small decrease in bill pay rate.

I've had no communication from them (so nothing new there :rotfl:) but checked the website and it says
New tariffs from 5th October
Bill Pay: 13.965 inc VAT
Keypad: 14.07 inc VAT
compares with PowerNI @ 14.39 and 14.93 respectively and Airtricity @ 15.31 (standard rate) so good news :T0 -

This doesn't take account of the 14.1% reduction in Airtricity tariffs which would bring it down to 13.15.0 -

It does actually.
The 13.17 rate is for the first year's discount and not available thereafter. Anyone already on Airtricity for a year or more will pay more. That's why I stated it was their standard rate.
I have already availed of 2 years discounted electricity from them so would be on their standard rate and tied in to a 2 year contract. By all means if you haven't already moved to them then take advantage of the 1 year rate but after that you are paying too much if you stay.
Here is the full information copied from their site.
Prices after 1st October, 2012
Year 1, Year 2, Discounted unit rate: 13.17, 14.08 (pence/kWh)
Airtricity standard rate:15.31 (pence/kWh)0 -
Having been subjected to the Airtricity salesman I will be staying with Budget.
Really surprised by how rude someone trying to sell a service could be! Out minding my own business and happened to walk past their sales stand..... I wish I had just walked on! Rude, aggressive and childish!
I'd love to know if they had any training in communication!
Well budget gets my vote anyway & you can buy online easily enough.0 -

The Airtricity saleswoman on the phone to me the other week sounds like she had the same training! It was a cold call & she was laughing at me & implying that I was being stupid for not wanting to listen to her! NOT the way to impress a possible customer...
I've been with Budget for ages & so far it's all been good. :money:Having been subjected to the Airtricity salesman I will be staying with Budget.

To tell you the truth I was unsure when I read your post as their website is not very user friendly. My two years were up in July.
So I phoned them today and they stated that my rate would be 13.71 from the 15th October. It is worth phoning 08456019093 to find out.

I have tried to switch online to budget, after airtricity kept overcharging us, and a credit of £150 appeared on my last statement. I want to get a keypad, instead of direct debit, to keep track of our usage, and the money would be better in my pocket. Does anyone know how much or is it free to get one fitted? thanks0

We changed from D/D to Keypad a few years ago when we were with NIE (powerNI). Dead easy to switch, no charge. Then moved then from NIE to Budget - same keypad.
The only thing is that I think PowerNi have to install the keypad (although not totally sure). Give budget a ring and see what they say.
Keypad is the way to go IMO as you know exactly were you stand, and you can view (via keyapd) daily usage etc etc0
