BBC website - lawyer trying to force banks to reveal costs

I work for a major bank and deal exclusively with customers wanting to discuss charges on their accounts. I am also a law student and I'm in the process of claiming back charges from another bank.
Clearly, you think you're another [insert name of any well known] QC?The claim for exemplary damages claim is just this guys way of trying to make a name for himself in the legal field and trying to force the banks to come to court.... I think its quite likely the banks will not turn up, the judge will rule on the side of the plaintiff and again no judicial precedent will be set.
Nothing wrong with that. Sense some envy on your part. With regard to the amount it costs banks to process transactions, i doubt its even around the £2 mark, judging how the bank i work for processes these transactions i think its unlikely its more than a few pence.
Oh, and you're a professor too? Also, banks routinely give out bad info to customers when they open accounts (eg basic accounts that supposedly cant allow you to go overdrawn) and further give people with low literacy and numeracy skills debit cards and cheque books, these people are often on low incomes but incur the most charges because they find it hard understanding how to run the account....
Ha!Oh i could rant for ages but best stop.... I have a banking exam to study for!

Looks like you're another magnet for moronic posters, like myself. Do you get pestered by undesirables on the bus too ? :rotfl:
Good luck with the exam

still waiting to see this chap anywhere but on the bbc......
i kind of lose all confidence in people who say they are on sabbatical. Real people don't take sabbaticals. Religious workers go on sabbatical when they have a crisis of faith or get caught doing something they shouldn't.Sorry but please keep your signature to 4 lines in length - MSE Forum Team 20 -
Has anyone checked with the bar council whether he is a barrister?0

I'm sure he is, journalists can uncover pretty much anything about a person.
I feel we are all being a little paranoid & sceptical about this guy. The story has had alot of coverage and reached out to a wide audience, so I'm confident he is not a mole!!!!!
Relax all

im sure he is/was/whatever a barrister. But that doesn't stop him from being other things as well. Big step to take to quit your job (presumably avoid employers any embarrassment type thing), go without a wage preparing for court case/battle, risk possible humiliation in court and potentially, as he says, face bankruptcy. Seems a lot of work to make a point. But fair credit to him if he is genuine.Sorry but please keep your signature to 4 lines in length - MSE Forum Team 20

Fair point there,
In my opinion I feel he may be at a dead end in a barristers world (wish I was on his salary though) and he's risking all or nothing for the all. He wants the big time, he wants to be remembered (for all the right reasons). He sure must be confident in wining his case to put so much on the line. There was an oppurtunity to make a difference, he found it and jump on it first!
Gee I hope I'm right

Hi, Thanks for this & good luck with the exam.0 -
My Sister lives in Dublin and they only get charged £3.50.
Do you think the banks over there LOOSE money??? Of Course not!
They have just made the decision NOT to milk people who can least afford it!0 -
... at long last! A solicitor with a sense of public ethics instead of just doing it for personal gain. What makes me think he will lose this one...let me see? Establishment?0
