Last month was an experiment for me. Ever since I have started a skincare reigme at 20, I have always used premier skincare. Last month, I wanted to give my wallet a rest and try some drugstore/chemist brands. I absolutely hated it

I have a lot of skin problems but have never found that more expensive brands have helped any more than the cheaper stuff. The problem is that I don't want to spend £20 plus on cleanser, moisturiser etc and then find it's no better than own brand stuff. I was using Dermalogica for a few weeks - had a starter kit, cleanser and moisturiser used up, but still have toner which I think will be a LHJ. I'm currently using a Murad facial wash which came free with a magazine. It's OK but nothing special so far. I'm also using Neal's Yard moisturiser which came free with a magazine and I hate it and would never buy it.

If I found products that worked for me then I would pay premium prices, within reason, but experimentation is just too expensive.

HAve cut open a Primark gradual facial mosituriser :) WBA smells nice and I think was only about 50p when I bought it reduced and it has a SPF 15 which I always look for in my moisturiser.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend :)

Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes x 25 - WBA!
Palmers Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks 2.5ml - WNBA, can't really say it does anymore than the actual Palmers lotion, with such a small sample.
    Garnier Intensive 7 Days Ultra-Softening Lotion, 6ml
    Total debts = [STRIKE]£3116[/STRIKE], [STRIKE]2216[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£2066[/STRIKE][STRIKE]£1916[/STRIKE][STRIKE]£1766[/STRIKE][STRIKE]£1616[/STRIKE][STRIKE]£1466[/STRIKE][STRIKE]£1316[/STRIKE][STRIKE]£1166[/STRIKE][STRIKE]£1016[/STRIKE]£866

I have excema and allergies. I found Body Shop and Lush were great at giving decent sized samples to try, also the SA's at Clinique, Clarins, etc. But best not to go at really busy times if you can help it. My other strategy is to buy small GWP sizes of things I want to try from *bay. I no longer use wipes, I have spent a fortune over the years, find one that is OK then they change the formula, now if I am being woefully lazy a face cloth wrung out in hot water does a reasonable job, (not a substitute for a proper cleanse, but better than nothing for my skin). I live in the sticks nowadays, but I read that all the major supermarkets now sell their ranges of more gentle formulas, often diffusion lines from well known names. Beat of luck if you decide to experiment more.

  • 3 UU to report:-

    - Plax mouthwash: WBA. Probably don't even need to report tooth stuff, it's not exciting enough for me to hoard.

    - Dove Grapefruit and Lemongrass deodorant: WBA - nice zesty perfume and not drying on the armpits.

    - Cowshed Dirty Cow handwash. WNBA. It's lovely, had a bottle free with a subscription to Grazia. I just think it's silly to spend that much on handwash.

    Ins

    - L'occitane Date bouquet handcream and dove hair therapy 50ml - both free with Marie Claire.

Then the more shameful one.... I was due to be going out for dinner with my friends on Thursday and didn't have time to go home after work. I'd forgotten to put any make up on in the morning or take any with me and I looked like death warmed over...

Ended up having a make up session in Benefit and bought the foundation (Hello Flawless), the mascara (they're real) and a make up box called "Away we glow" which has Coralista, High Beam, Sun beam, a lip gloss, mini mascara and 5 eye shadow shades. It is a lovely kit and all the colours are ones I would use.

However, given what I have at home, I really didn't need it, but I think I will keep the foundation and the make up box at work so I don't do the same thing again.

Let's see if I can resist the duty free at Gatwick later...

I've seen a lot of comments about Sally's, I think there's one close to me but never been in there. Is it really that tempting?

Unless you have a beauty qualification they are not cheaper, but I liked OPI and China Glaze nail polish and it was good to see them IRL, also bought cuticle remover, acetone and manicure stuff there. The salon haircare brands are quite expensive compared to high street prices, but often higher strength, so had to use less shampoo, conditioner etc, so could work out better value, have to add not been able to go to one for almost 2 years, so may have changed.

Anybody know what the discount is if you have a trade card? When I worked in the public sector I had a friend who's daughter had a salon and when they were going to the wholesalers she got me some bargains - I remember one of the mini kits of 4 OPI lacquers was £6.@ opposed to £13.00 in the shops. She could never find anything when they went to Sallys though. The one in Hyde (unfortunately for me) seems to be a good one and carries a good stock. I suppose I was good in that I resisted the Man With the Golden Gun though. lol x

I agree with you there about experimentation. Did the Dermalogica work for you though?

I like your style in that you got the Benefit gals to make you up for your dinner party. lol The Benefit kits are great and I don't think it's a bad price for what you got in there. My first Benefit purchase was the Realness of Concealness kit which was marketed as a limited edition at the time but they still sell it now. And my daughter picked up the Dandelion kit on holiday. I still love this brand. x

They're always asking if you'd like to try anything when I go past the Benefit counter in the Boots near work so I decided to take advantage. Have to admit, I was quite subtle asking if she could help with choosing a foundation, and then once she'd done that she asked if there was anything else I'd like to try.... well, what's a girl to say?? ;-)

To be honest, I don't reckon she guessed, or would have minded if she had given I ended by buying £70 worth of products.

I'd been eyeing up that box of make up before, definitely my kind of colours, and the new foundation is nice, last time they did my make up in benefit the base they used was much heavier and too mask like for my tastes but this is much more natural.

    Morning all.

Tokkiandoliver - I hope you are not feeling too down in the dumps and that you get a new job very soon.

Have a little uu today - BS Sweet lemon body butter, just a mini size and I have another one and a mini body lotion in the same scent so no need to panic and run to BS.

I too love the Benefit kits, I have smokin eyes and passport to posh, they are really cute. I am currently lusting after the Too Faced matte pallette which is super cute but also very practical but it is £26 and I have loads of eyeshadows already.
