Would I be a killjoy buying him seated tickets to a gig?

DS wants to see one of his favourite bands in January, the tickets are only £16 each so I'm planning on buying 2 for him as a Christmas present so he can take a friend.
The gig is at the Brixton Academy so there's the choice of standing downstairs of seated balcony seats. I'm pretty sure if he's standing he'll want to be at the front, he weathered the front row of a Motorhead gig with me when he was 12 but we had the barrier to cling onto then and the moshing was all going on behind us but he is fearless.
I've been knocked to the floor at the Brixton Academy myself (sloping floor, high heels, not a good combination) and I'd be much happier if he was seated but I don't want to ruin the experience for him. Would i be being a killjoy?

How old is he? If he's 13 fair enough, if he's 17 it might come across a bit overprotective parent (to him).0

I'm off to see Slash; Alice Cooper and Motörhead within the next six weeks....all seated. I saw Mötley Crüe and GNR recently too...all seated. The reason I choose seated is I can't be bothered to fight with the mob if I need the loo etc; then trying to find my DH again amongst the hundreds of people. However; if I was a young un I'd probably opt for standing and try to get as close to the stage as possible. Young people love to get rowdy; don't care if they get pushed about so much and feel like they are a part of it if standing.
Tommy Lee tweeted a couple of months ago that he doesn't understand people who go to a rock gig and sit down. Bet he doesn't say no to the money he gets from the seated fans though ;-)
Dependent on his age I'd go for standing!
Edited to say I'm seeing Steel Panther at the O2 in Bristol soon too; that is standing as there was no other option; so that will be a first standing experience for me.0 -
With all due respect it sounds like you're seeing things from your own point of view rather than his. You didn't enjoy it so you'd rather he was seated.
You said yourself he's 'fearless'. As a young lad, I think he'd much prefer standing up0 -
I'd definitely go for standing if you think that's what he'd prefer. I'm 23 and still wouldn't want to go to a seated gig.Kate.0

If the band is really popular the standing downstairs tickets will sell out first, so if you don't make your mind up soon the decision will be made for you.
Unless it's some frighteningly lively heavy metal act with guaranteed mosh-pit action, I'd go for the downstairs tickets. Even if it's likely to get hairy there are plenty of good spots at that venue to see the stage without getting completely in the thick of it.
Being seated upstairs is for the older folks, who are scared of getting their pints spilled.0 -
Definitely standing. Tobe honest at that age all he will want to do is be in the thick of it totally enjoying it - and at 15 I am sure he wont let himself be totally walked over with all the pushing etc. I definitely think if you are going to do it and get him tickets you may as well do it properly and get him the full experience.Saving for our next step up the property ladder0

Sometimes there is a minimum age of 16 for standing anyway, have you checked?0

What band is it? I think that would affect my decision too.You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

I've never actually been to a concert and sat, so I'd go for standing. I went to reading festival at 16 and was near the front for one of the headliners it was pretty scary but I was fine.
I saw slash at hammersmith apollo in June and was a few rows from front and the atmosphere was amazing, and I'm also seeing slash again in brixton in Oct and motorhead locally in November - both standing.0
