Register with Call 18185 and use them to make the calls to mobiles via.
VirginMedia landline service is a poor phone service and poor value. Slow at enabling number ranges and block many number ranges too. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
In general, I usually tend to communicate via email for any sort of technical queries I have. If you ring a helpdesk and the person you speak to doesn't really know the answer, you will tend to be fobbed off. If you send an email, because they're not put on the spot, I'd say that the person dealing with your query is more likely to ask around and make enquiries with their technical people, before sending you a response. You therefore tend to get a more detailed and accurate response, plus of course, you have a written record if you need to refer to it at a later date, and you're not being kept on hold for ages and paying for the privilege. Thanks Ian. I have tried them both again but as your smiley shows it's like banging your head against a brick wall.
Both saying they are not at fault. My neighbour on Virgin media also cannot ring my number. But she can from her Virgin Mobile and she can ring her Virgin mobile from her landline.
I think you may be on to something because her prefix is different to mine as she's had it for quite a while. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try them again when the call waiting music has faded from my brain!

Thank you everyone for your help.
The prefix for my phone is 07954 and I think this might be a new one. I can't believe I am the only one having this problem but Virgin Media seemed totally stumped. They said they will look into it and call me in the next 2-3 days. I'm not holding my breath though!
Meanwhile Virgin Mobile said they will send me a new sim within 5 days but as it will have the same number I don't think that will help me. I'm off to bang my head against a wall!
Thank you everyone who is trying to help me.0 -
I just checked on the ukphoneinfo link and it said code is unknown. Then I clicked the link underneath and it said allocated to Tmobile in June 2006. Clear as mud to me!0

From what you've said, I'm fairly certain it is exactly the same problem as I encountered just over a year ago (this is the full thread: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=1638049).They said they will look into it and call me in the next 2-3 days. I'm not holding my breath though!
The person you spoke to on the helpline will not be able to help you because they do not have access to the necessary information, but once they speak to their "technical people" it should be very easy to check. As soon as they see that they have no record of the 07954 Virgin Mobile prefix this will explain why any calls made through Virgin Media to that prefix are not being connected (because they don't know where to route the call). Obviously, there will be procedures etc they have to follow, but within time they should sort it out and add the prefix to their database.
Presumably if VMob have just started issuing the simcards with this prefix, this will trigger more enquiries about the problem (to Vmob and VMedia) which should hopefully spur them into action.
Good luck - hope you get it sorted soon.

Thank you Ian. It certainly sounds the same as your problem, I've read through the thread. I hope they do sort it out as it seems a good deal at £10 a month and I am trying to save on our phone bills. With two sons who spend a lot of time with their ears glued to various phones it's not easy

The customer services people tried very hard to help especially Virgin Mobile who have promised to ring me next week, but clearly were flummoxed. I can't believe that there would be problem between Virgin Media and Virgin Mobile phones! It's amazing that the helpful people on this board have probably come up with the answer when customer services for both Virgin services couldn't!
Thanks a lot for your help and good wishes. If the problem isn't sorted out when the assistant rings me I will certainly ask about the prefix. :easter:0 -

The other thing you could do is port a number into your new virgin mobile account. If you have an old number with another provider ask them for your PAC and then phone it through to Virgin Mobile Customer Services on 789 from your handset. The number will port over within 5 working days, curing your problem.0 -
Thanks dave_dph. Thats a brilliant idea! Why didn't I think of that? I'm with Tmobile PAYG at present. If no joy with the new Virgin sim I'll certainly do that. Thank goodness for this board! :j0

Thank you everyone for your help. It was a dodgy sim! Virgin mobile thought that it was Virgin medias fault but they sent a new sim anyway and it works perfectly! Yippee. :j
Have to say though that Virgin mobiles customer services were very nice and the lady even phoned me after the new sim arrived to make sure it was working ok.0
