Help anyone!

I have recently got a £10 Virgin sim as we are virgin media customers. I was pleased but am having problems. I cannot call my new virgin mobile number from my landline (Virgin Media phone size L). It says there is a temporary fault please try later. This has been going on for the last three days. I can call my new number from other mobiles and call all other numbers from my landline but not my new one. have tried the sim in tree different phones but can't ring any from my own landline. Virgin Media cannot call my new mobile mumber either but Virgin Mobile managed to do so. Both Mobile and Media have tried to help but both insisted problem is with the other. They are baffled and so am I. Any suggestions before I cancel my direct debit. I have spent most of today trying to sort it out but and chasing my tail!

Thanks for any suggestions.

Virgin Customer Services can be a nightmare at times and they do mess about when they try to fix a problem, to save you the time of constantly phoning you can go to this website as Virgin Media Employees are always on there and help people who are having problems

Thanks Jaymarsh I'll go there now. I don't think I can stand lsitening to the recorded music anymore. I'm still humming it. Although the customer services people really did try to help me they are baffled.

    Thanks for the advice.

I experienced a similar problem a while back with a new Virgin SIM, where certain telephone exchanges / operators did not recognise the number because it was a newly issued prefix.

It appears that some operators are slow to update their systems when a new prefix is issued, which means when someone tries to ring the number, it fails to connect. :wall:

The fact that Virgin Media have only recently taken over the cable operation probably means their systems aren't fully integrated with Virgin Mobile (but you'd still think Virgin Mobile would be quick to inform Virgin Media when a new prefix is issued - assuming this is actually the cause of your problem).

Thanks Ian. I have tried them both again but as your smiley shows it's like banging your head against a brick wall. Both saying they are not at fault. My neighbour on Virgin media also cannot ring my number. But she can from her Virgin Mobile and she can ring her Virgin mobile from her landline.

I think you may be on to something because her prefix is different to mine as she's had it for quite a while. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try them again when the call waiting music has faded from my brain!

What are the first five digits of your new Virgin sim?

Check out the code here http://www.ukphoneinfo.com/section/tci/locator.shtml
to see when that range was put into operation. I bet it's a recent addition and Virgin Media haven't added the range to their switch. it used to happen with people trying to call Sipgate numbers from Telewest lines.

Don't forget that the number range will be listed as T-Mobile and not Virgin.
