I don't actually have another immediate aim. It worries me more that I am my mum's pension, my sister needs some financial support to get training for the job she wants and my body is rubbish, than I am missing out on anything. I hope this doesn't come off as self pitying, but travelling would have to be very carefully planned out as sitting/standing for too long is very painful. Exercise is not some I can do easily and I haven't really got much I want. My preference really is to play with my money and make it grow...<cackle> Grow my pretties! </cackle>

But then I'm not particularly strict either, I go out drinking, I see friends about three times a week and I see the boyfriend another once or twice.

What is this re-entry fee? Is this just costs that you will encounter or? Have a good day at work!
  • Peaty I TOTALLY get that travelling would be a proper orchestrated affair for you and yes to be honest I worry about my parents as well. I love the comment "I like to play with money and make it grow" makes me SMILE!! I love this... you have people to look after and you are being smart about it. Apart from living on my own there isn't much more that I "want" either. I have realised little things make me happy now... though seeing family in Australia is high on the list...

You are doing it well though.. with your body you are still pushing yourself to create a good life for your Mum and your Sister... this is a good person... and your super duper clever which helps...

I will be back for advice.. my aim is for a "minimum" of 10% in a long-term (20years+) savings account, changable according to best APR etc... but when I am gone I need something that will allow me to STILL put away 10% (yes I am THAT sad) and be happy that it's doing it's best.... so to me I will go by what I am earning basic now - £180 as my 10%..

My re-entry money would be funds to help me re-settle if I need to.. rental deposit, a stipend so to speak to help me survive until I get a job... It won't need to be much but enough in case I come "home" to London. I haven't thought it all through just yet though. I am still assuming that despite having 5 years off work that I will be back before then but a year with the parents in Northern Ireland is appearling right now too...Shhhhhh don't tell Mummy......

  • Hello, I have been lurking. Inspired by everyone's debt busting and I see saving as busting my !!! not to get into debt. 2013 has been a rough year for me so saving went, but now my situation has made me focus on what I want. I want to save for financial security and to feel in control of my life. I get a pay rise in Jan so I should earn £1600 a month. Expenses are £850 a month, I will save £400 a month and that leaves £350 a month to live on. I want to live a bit too- so if I am good that £350 can include the odd meal out, theatre ticket and my dream of horse riding lessons at £100 a month. I want to build up the £400 saving to about £3k untouched savings. Then save to learn to drive. Maybe the £400 amount will need review in the future but would like to save £10k ultimately. 2014, happiness and security here I come! Thanks for listening. Tea with NSK helps :)
Debt free. House deposit £75k. Oct 24 have moved to Scotland. 2025 start house purchase. Do overtime, get salary increases- to £41k then £48k
  • MORNING everyone...... Duesouthtwin didn't you just leave my house!:rotfl:.... glad to see you lurking. People need to know you are one of the most important reasons that I stayed sane throughout this year! Couldn't have done it without you! Only seems like yesterday we were sat in the park boiling to death talking about what we wanted to do for 2014 and it's nearly upon us.... You have come so far in your journey and now we can SAVE TOGETHER!!!...... Peaty is the best person to talk to about saving accounts - long term and short term - and we can get those pennies working for you!

  • So it's official properly now...

The letter confirming my sabbatical came through today, it has been signed and counter-signed and sent back with a big smiley face on it. They wrote on it that "if we do not hear from you by the 19th December the offer of your sabbatical will be withdrawn" .. yeah right... you will hear back in ten minutes... BOOM! :rotfl:

Although they have started it a month earlier than I was expecting. 1 September 2014 is the official start date... which means I will have to use up my annual leave before then as I wouldn't want to leave any earlier than that..

So - 9 months to accrue £10,000. But this is what I would like to take with me. This does not include vaccinations, my flight to Bangkok, equipment and a few new bits of clothing and getting back to Ireland and living for a month. I don't want to dip into that £10k. SO.... I need to figure out how much I need on the side.....

I am guestimating a furher £2k to be safe - this means £1350 as a minimum each month!

Oh dear! What have I got myself into!

  • Wow so exciting, a good challenge to save that much but I'm sure you will do it especially because it's going on your dreams.

My sentiments entirely! That's the amount I need to raise each month as well to hit my target - money making twins :)

Hurrah on the confirmation though, that's excellent news :j

    Yay go kat!

Hehe, unintended pun since you're literally going.

I'm out of sorts, I'm on holiday (in my house) and have no idea what's going on anymore. :rotfl:
