Hi everyone, i've had a good hard look at things today, and worked out my medium term plan is to pay one half (or more) of the debts by December 2015 - 3 years! I worked out that I could either pay £200 towards all the cards each month (inc minimum payments) which would clear all of them by that date, or to pay extra onto my loan and clear that by the same date insead. So what do I do? Cards or loan? The cards would make things tidier and then after that I could pay extra onto the loan. Although the cards are 0% for 1 year but the loan is 15%, hmmm decisions decision!!Nov NSD: 8/7 Dec NSD: 1/10Sealed pot member #1443 2011: £106. 2012: £171Ninjakat challenge: Aim to clear two debts by April 2013100 day challenge: No toiletries or magazines 19/100 (3 x fails

Evening all...
So sorry I have been AWOL. I had my parents to stay & it was a huge messy chaotic time. House is a complete tip now, apart from sparkling kitchen ready for boiler man to mess up tomorrow. I don't have the energy to sort it out today after a bad bad night with the little lady & so I have my blinkers firmly wedged on.
Welcome newbies, thank you for the lowdown Mayfair. I know what it is like wading into this thread. It's like all your best friends have amnesia. You know the colour of their favourite pants.. but they don't know you from Adam.. Hahaha.
Annie, well done on cutting up the credit card - excellent idea! As for the debt paying off... It is a tricky one. Paying off the credit cards when they are 0% seems like a waste of the interest you have on the loan... but at the same time, when you get to mid 2015, if you have been paying the loan, the CC's will probably be adding far more interest. I really have no answer I am afraid. Weigh up the pro's & cons of each...
Kat, very glad you had a lovely time away walking. Booo for £128 bike repairs. You are right, it does need doing though. Very sad when you are doing so well. But, remember... you are doing all this moneysaving in order to have a huge fund available for when the bike has a wobble
I know this is past but I am going to wade in briefly on the benefits thing... I have always been really angry at the amount of benefits paid out to people who refuse to do anything for themselves. I think it may have had something to do with the family across the road from us growing up. Dad had a motorbike accident, leaving him 'disabled' 25 or so years back. He had a lot of pain at certain points and couldn't work so was on benefits. They had 5 kids, and so got a lot for being a low income family with no parents working. They earned around £38k a year in benefits & did the huge xmas thing, where my poor working family with 3 kids had a small very budgeted xmas, with my mum going without food for days on end to provide us with things we NEEDED and one thing we wanted... The thing that really galled me was that Mr Disabled worked, off the books, for his brother as a painter and decorator, up and down ladders all day. Cash in hand on top of the benefits. And to make matters worse, he is an alcoholic and was paid £15 per week for his alcoholism AND had a state funded motability car... HOW do they justify giving someone the means to drink and drive like that?
Personally I receive benefits, which just about mean that my OH & I can work opposite shifts, part time in order to look after the baby and not pay childcare costs when I go back to work. It is going to be tough, hence starting this debt free journey asap.
Right, off to update DDD with my terrible spending habits....

Hi mayfair.
£140 in swagbucks... That's a lot! I've gotten £50 thus farGood luck with your debt fighting, you will get there and then give yourself one hell of a cup of tea. :T
Annie, I would go for the loan first, then attempt to move the CCs onto new 0% deals : ) But obviously it's up to you : )
Lilt... WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR BOILER?!?! Hope everything will get better.
I am £530 richer today than I was yesterday. £30 from GMT and... £500 from my dad's life insurance. Mum wants me to spend it all, I really want to save it... She seems upset. It's upsetting.0 -

It was serious serious hours. Not easy at all but worth it. All the pressies are wrapped under the tree, and thinking that all i've paid is time and not cash is a really nice feeling. I'm going to need a big vodka at the end, s*d the tea!
Thank you all for the kind welcome. :j0 -
hi everyone!!! another lurker saying hello!! i have been reading your thread for about a month or so and you all seem really friendly! i have already tried to get my debt a bit more in order, my total debt is £14,000 please can i join in?

Hi Sarah
Welcome, of course you can join in. How are the dorito's or haven't you tried them yet? My OH LOVES the tesco onion ring crisps... I do not love the morning breath
Killer... it has been dying a slow and painful death for a while now. Won't be long before it is consigned to boiler heaven but for now, it's being shored up. A couple of months back, the shower stopped making the boiler switch on for hot water... So you had to get in the shower while the OH was standing by the kitchen sink, & every time the boiler cut out, you had to yell & he would run the tap, thus starting the water up again for another 2 minutes or so. Fun fun fun. They fixed that, some perforated doodahh needed replacing... roll on about a week and the hot water suddenly started getting less hot... until now you cannot run hot enough water to wash the pots, let alone bath the baby or yourself. Luckily, the shower is fine (not that I shower the dishes... but I boil the kettle for those...)
Thank heavens for rented properties & nice landlords!!!
