Am I being silly listing at 99p

I am moving house fairly soon and have listed a number of items
I know some similar items have sold for prices well in in excess of £100
Am I being silly in listing at 99p with no reserve?
I realise that it's a risk I take and they may sell at the start price, but what do you more seasoned ebayers think?
Any advice appreciated
I should have asked BEFORE I listed !!

I always start my listings at 99p. I personally find it attracts more buyers. It always goes for more or less the same sort of price as other identicle items no matter what the start price.0

You could always get someone to place a pseudo bid on the item to make sure you don't 'Give it away'.
This is called schilling or schill-bidding and frowned on by some, but you're out to make money aren't you?"Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
If there are any items that you be gutted to get 99p for, and there have been no bids, then I would increase the starting price as it's not worth the risk.
Otherwise, if they are items that you have no use for, and anything is better than nothing then leave them as they are as you will definitely get more interest and will probably sell for as much if not more. They other thing is that once they have started bidding on your item many people will forget to look at the competition0 -
Plus at 99p you get the lowest listing fee possible, which will make a difference if you get a good price at the end."I have enough money to last me the rest of my life, unless I buy something."0

Your big problem is this Easter holiday, youur potential buyer base will be much lower. So I hope you have the items on for 7-10 days.
Personally I am too much of a coward to do a 99p listing, but it is probably more appropriate for second hand items that are hard to value.
good luck.0 -

You have to be really careful if you are going to do this, it is so easy to be caught if you use someone from the same area or if they bid on a number of your items. Is it worth the risk of suspension for the sake of maybe 50p to increase your starting price?0 -
I listed an item on a 3 day auction, finishes tomorrow, I am hoping it will reach £30 - £40 and it is currently at £10 with 18 watchers so fingers crossed.0

Don't want to do anything unethical, would like to build up decent feedback.0 -

Good for you.
I applaud your sentiments.
But don't put TOO much store by pos feedback. In a lot of cases it isn't worth the paper...Etc.
It is easy to get a few thousand Pos feedbacks which will water down ANY neg feedback.
(This is not what i have done, BTW but many others have)
This is what you are up against, I'm afraid."Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
