Mothership- Good to see you back but heck what a time you have been having, no wonder you haven't been around for a while.
Hope daughters blood count goes up as it can be very debilitating and its unreal how tired you can get. Hope all your dramas are sorting themselves out now and its a new year for you all with a lovely baby to love and cherish.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Hi Everyone, put £13 into my 3rd purse making it £20 so really please with that as I'm starting again. Got a lot of Christmas food bargains to get through.

Mothership nice to hear from you again, sorry things have been so hard. Esther you too what's happening why the tighter budget?

Seems like a lot of us are having a hard time at the moment. My husband is still ill at home with no second income coming in this system is even more important now.

    Take care everyone :-)

  • Sorry to hear you are having a hard time girls. I just used my last M+S voucher. I've got 14 bottles of wine from the January dine in for two lol. That should keep us going for a while.

I just paid my 2nd purse £3 per day for all the food used in January
    31 days = £93 + £40 already in it =£133.
I'm transferring £33 to my 3rd Purse. Leaving £100 for stock.
My 1st Purse monthly budget is £200 so I have £107 left in that.

    1st Purse £107
    2nd Purse £100
    3rd Purse £33

I've got a good stock of everything , so should only need fresh fruit, veg , milk and bread in February.
I'm hoping to spend only around £10 per week on that. So with a bit of luck my purses should fill up fairly quickly.
Even after using this system for over 30 years it still amazes me how after I've paid back all I've used I still have my £200 + the profit in one purse or another.
It just goes to show you just how much the big boys make off us and control our lives. We really don't need most of what they want us to buy.

My aim now is to teach my DD3 with 2 young children how to manage her money better, she has more than double my income and is always skint and runs out of everything.

I got an email from eon saying they are putting my DD up £104 per month to £324 ouch thats a big jump.

I've been in every corner of my house and have grouped all the like items together I have 500 toilet rolls and enough soap powder for 600 odd washes ROTFLMAO!
That should keep me going a while lol.

Has anyone noticed the Donald Russell prices creeping up lately? I usually have orders for 6 months ahead. My freezers are full so I'm planning on using the contents over the coming months.
I took two burgers from the freezer one day, they were almost defrosted and my OH decided he wanted Bolognaise, I mashed up the burgers and I honestly couldn't tell the difference. So ever since then I've been using two burgers weighing around 220g instead of the 440g pack of mince. I use that when there's more than two of us.
I've started making my own pizzas too, cheap as chips and so much nicer than shop bought. If anyone wants the recipe I will be happy to post. I cook them in a pan on top of the cooker and finish them off under the grill, seemingly thats how pizzas were first made, they cook really quickly too. I've not been able to get the dough into rounds though, the dough is quite springy and they end up all shapes and sizes. But they taste good so thats all that matters.

    Hi All,,

Hope things are beginning to improve and none of you are affected by the flooding etc. it seems like a hard enough time without.

ALIBO: sorry your husband is still ill. Tighter budget because of reduced income and less work for our household. Doing ok so far though I think.

I have just bought some more coffee, shower gels and a few other bits and bobs and updated my signature. I put another £16 in my Christmas savings too making £73 so far this year already. I just hope I can leave it there and not have to dip into it.

It's a lot harder to find your way to this thread now isn't it? Is that why it's been so quiet again?

Anyway, I've added another £13 to my Christmas savings and been and bought some more stock today: teabags, milk, couple of cans of frylight spray oil, bisto, and bacon. I also managed to get one of those sacks of potatoes from Mr M's for £2.

Oh, just noticed that the thread isn't in the sticky box now. I don't understand the new way.

  • Afternoon all, haven't been here since before Christmas! naughty me. My second purse is empty as I stopped doing the second purse due to having mice. We had them under the kitchen units (no idea how they were getting in) and there was a small warp in the back of one of the food cupboards and they ate lots of stuff in there so it had to be binned. Very upsetting and unsettling too as it made me feel incredibly filthy and I couldn't eat properly for a few days as the thought of them scurrying around made me feel a bit peaky! we sorted the cupboards, found all gaps and holes and sorted those. No more pesky mice can eat the food now!! muahaha! DD goes back to school on tuesday so I shall be re-organising the kitchen cupboards and trying to maximise space in there. I'm going to pop over the road in the morning and put £20 in the second purse to start me off again. We need to stock up on Tea bags so will keep my eye out in home bargains. We don't like our tea too strong and found the typhoo onecup bags are perfect. 95p for 100 so will go get a few boxes.

We've got tins of beans and spaghetti stocked up, tinned tomatoes galore and loads of bread flour. We got a bread maker for Christmas which we have had loads of fun using :) Got a list ready in my filofax of items I need to stock up on when I see them on offer so it's handy in my bag. we need: tea bags, toilet roll, washing up liquid, washing powder, jars of sauce and jams/spreads. Home bargains will get most of my trade for these products but if I see a good offer, i'm on the case! xx

Goals: Save £500 for emergencies, Save £200 of Amazon vouchers for Xmas, fix my holey clothes!

  • Yes I agree this thread is a lot harder to find now. Feel like its been hidden away. Don't think we'll get as many new members now. 3 clicks instead of 1 to get to the right page.

I've been struggling a bit this month with money so I havent been able to put aside much at all for my second purse. Waiting for payday so I can start again. Finding this a bit of an up and down process, sometimes it works for me really well other times not:(

And Lidl are selling Branston Baked Beans really cheap this weekend too. Can't remember the price exactly but under £1.00 for four. So a choice of Baked Beans on offer to stock up on.

I am ready to transfer some more money to my third purse. All going well with that. I need some hair conditioner. I used to have a good stock of Avon but that has run out and so has any other that I have except some Toni and Guy which I expect is quite expensive - I got the shampoo and conditioner in a survey I did about eighteen months ago and I really don't like it but I am now using it as it's all I have left. I don't want to waste it but it makes my hair feel greasy although it is actually quite dry. I was so excited when I got it too.
Anyway, I need to find something that suits me but is a good price. I suppose I could order online as I don't have an Avon lady anymore.

The system works really well on the whole and is good to not run out of things because I have my stock.
