That sounds good. Thanks Hollie. I have an iPhone which is a cast off from DS but don't use the Internet on it. Do I need the Internet for this? I get a very small allowance in with my minutes/texts but DS tells me it's 'nothing' so I am scared to use it at all incase I go over and end up with a bill. I suppose there's nothing to stop me scanning it at home. Shall google it. I signed up to Topcashback and earned about £32 but then forgot about it and i think after six months you are locked out. Anyway, i cant log in anymore. Thanks again. Esther x

  • Popped into morrisons to get some bits and spotted their cadburys multipack treat bags of buttons for £1 instead of £2.99. Picked up 3 bags and put 2 away for Christmas time and 1 is for when DD has been a good girl and deserves a little treat. Managed to get 2 pack of hotdog rolls for 9p each and they went in the freezer. Will make good rolls for soup dipping! :)xx

Goals: Save £500 for emergencies, Save £200 of Amazon vouchers for Xmas, fix my holey clothes!

I keep buying a stocking up for Esther's Bagels, but I can't keep track of my stock value. I have no idea where I am at with it. I do keep putting money in my second purse when I buy from my stock and have so far transferred £45 to my Christmas savings. Does anyone else have this problem. I know some of you use spreadsheets but I'm not at all computer literate and wouldn't have a clue about those. I have tried making lists but as soon as I've made them they are out of date. The good thing is that in principal it is working for me and that is what matters. So:

    2nd purse. - £84/100
    3rd purse. - £45 Christmas savings

Hi I've been away for a while but have been using the second purse idea but not nearly well enough so getting back on it.

Esther I have the same problem keeping track of my stock. I am actually going to do a stock take tonight, but I find keeping a track of the value a bore.

I have got an app called grocery hero where you put everything in and it makes it easier when meal planning but doesn't keep track of the value. Does anyone else know of a good app for pantry items as this one just lumps everything together.

    Hi everyone,

Sorry can't help with apps I'm afraid. I use an excel spreadsheet which requires some degree of organisation and obviously it doesn't help when the laptop is poorly and in the menders!

I've decided to use 3rd purse balance to pay the deposit for DS2s rugby tour - he only joined a couple of weeks ago and the tour isn't until May but we have to pay £150 now to secure the accommodation. It will save me having to transfer from our ISAs, which once taken out it can't be put back :money:

New totals as of today are:

    2nd purse - £40.97
    3rd purse - £0 :(
    Stock total - £167.40

Hope you are all going well.

  • Just did a re tot of my totals. I am really pleased slowly making a dent in my debt! :j

As for the second purse I have not got around to doing my stock take but have £20 in my second purse and £54 in my third. Beginning to think I might put it towards buying a chest freezer to put in the garage. Not sure I will be able to pursue my hubby but I think my small freezer is limiting my saving. I cant fit too many bargains in and also I can't freeze meals I have cooked a lot of as its mostly full up. I think I just need one of those small ones.:)

  • Afternoon all! Been really slacking and need a big kick up the bum. We've had a tough month money wise and we ended up using a lot of the food in the freezer so it's got very low and the cupboards are looking very bare. Going to do a tesco online shop to take advantage of the £17 off a £60 shop and i also have a £10 gift card for tesco so technically get £27 off. Really need to stock up on bits and also make some shortbread biscuits to snack on with a cuppa so I don't have to buy any in the shops!

Still not done a stock take - wonder how many times I have posted that?

I have just had a tally up of the money in my second purse and it was £101 so that's good. I stocked up on bran flakes in Allidi when the £5 off voucher was in the paper a few weeks back. They are the same price as Mr T basics but I used to buy the own brand ones and they are so much cheaper than them. Need tea bags so will get a big bag from Costco. I got 12 (I think) bags of sugar from there the other week but they will last a long time. I have some vouchers to from Mr T though not the £5off a £40 spend type. Just the 35p off £1 apples or so many points extra when you buy ones. Still I will go and have a look if I get time tomorrow. Hopefully they may have some bargains that I want/need.

    God bless. Esther x

HI ANGEL-RACHIE, If you look at the first page there is a good explanation of how this works. However, I'll try and explain how I started as I had stock already too.

So, I use a box as my second purse (the first purse is your normal grocery money), and to get me started, every time I used something from my stock I put the money it would normally cost in the box. So for a box of bran flakes I put in £1.50, and a tin of tuna I put in £1. When you have got a few pounds in the second purse you have money to start buying bargains for your stock.
Some people start off by putting in £10 or some other amount, to get started. I can't actually remember whether I did that as well or not. The idea is that the second purse is the money you use to buy your bargains and then when you use whatever you have bought you pay your second purse back from your first purse (grocery money).
Once you get into it, the money in your second purse grows and when you have enough in there to keep you going with being able to buy bargains whenever you find them, then you can start to transfer any money in excess of this to your third purse. Some people set this level at £50, mine is £100.
The money in your third purse is yours to use in whatever way you want.
    Mine is savings for Christmas.

I think I have probably confused you even more now, but I do think it is a great system and it means that once you get started you always have money to buy things when they are on offer/a bargain, and as long as you don't mind putting a larger amount into your second purse when you use the product, you will soon start to make a profit. HTH. Esther x
