finally brought my first house which has eaten up all my savings and investments and then i maxed out my CC to buy furniture and decorate the place as its a bit of a doer-upper.

have in the past spent all my savings on doing up ExH's house and then walked away with nothing as it was all in his name and he refused to cough up so huge lesson learned - this one is all mine!

I got sick of renting and sharing with other people, especially in London, so thought i would buy a place which will give me the option of renting the spare room out but feel like i need to make it my "own home" and live by myself for a bit before I get someone in to share.

    Selfish, moi - never!

Hello everyone, can I join too? I too am a singleton who needs to sort myself out! I live with my twin sister and we rent together but our finances are completely seperate as such.
We split household bills down the middle then each pay for our own things.
I've just worked out my debt and although it isn't a massive amount it is getting me down... So I'll look forward to my time here :) xx

  • Hello everyone! Please can I join too? I'm working hard to pay off my credit cards and some company whilst I do it would be great. I'm SAD (but definitely not sad!)
  • Anyone else of the original SAD's feeling popular? (or less alone?!) - there are loads of us! This is my favourite thread :j

    Welcome wellylass and paddlingfuriously!!!

I live with a good friend (it's his house) and although we act very much like a married couple, we are not, nor will ever be a pair. He knows I have debt but not how much in total. He is very good to me - the rent I pay each month for my room covers absolutely everything so the only things I pay for are my mobile, car, tv licence and debt.

Would sometimes like to have a house of my own, but kind of resigned to the fact it won't ever happen and actually it's nice to have the company of someone else without having to share my bed with them!!!!
    Current debt (June 2016): £7699.81

  • Thank you for the lovely welcome! Nice to have some company. Have checked my balances and updated my signature. Scary but seeing it in black & white should scare me into action!

Just watching Don't Tell the Bride - controlling the remote is surely one of the best things about being single!!
  • Another fellow singleton here, 32 and rent a room in a mates house.

Hopefully Mr right will come along one day, just need a bit more confidence!

    Eh xx
  • hi everhopeful - another welcome! :j
Im hoping for Mr Right too :) If i find him first, il check out whether he has a brother, and if so - send him your way!

Paddling furiously - its scary to update your signature, but its AMAZING getting to update it and see the number go down!

Ive managed to clear one CC in three months - im aiming to clear the second one by Christmas - i cant WAIT! Its become a little daily challenge - how much can i NOT spend? How much extra can i make to clear it faster? My DFD is currently March 31st, but Im aiming to bring that forward very soon. The thought of being in the black and being able to save for a house deposit is an incredible motivator. You can do it my lovely fellow SAD!

  • Ah thank you! Will join in the challenge to pay a CC off by Christmas. I also have to save between now and mid December as I am off to the US to visit a friend. Not ideal, but it's making me stay in more and makes sure I take lunch to work with me. Hoping this will help change the habits of a lifetime and be better with money longterm once this is paid off. Am 32 next month and really need to start saving!
