Thanks Viva! No takeups from NP yet, especially Chewy, who found an amazing workaround :(

Can I play too please :)

My reasons are not wanting to give those in charge any more than I already to by working all my life and paying full NI when they can't even be honest with their taxes and NI. I want to grow old naturally and don't want my laughter lines to be chemically induced.

Also I really don't want my boys to think it is hard, normal, funny or whatever to be stood outside in the garden with a cancer stick in their mouths.

Good luck everyone. It is cr"p, but it is so, so worth it.
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x

  • Day One - need a strong will or at least a strong won't

So here I sit - 09:20 on Day 1 of Stoptober and I am already thinking about the lure of the cigarette, the feel of it in my hand, the satisfying click of the lighter, that first intake of smoke and long slow exhalation - the evil mind control of Nic-O-tine runs deep.

Yet if i take a moment to reflect I know that this is a simple psychological distraction and driven by one overiding perception. The part of my brain that champions free will is railing against the feeling that I am being deprived of something; that something has shackled it's freedom and is denying it of something that it thinks it wants.

My brain is behaving much like a child who has a toy taken away and has a tantrum not because it necessarily wanted the toy, but simply because it cannot have it.

So - time for strong will, strong won't and simple logic. There have been hundreds of times in my life when I have gone this long without a cigarette - football matches / cinema trips / flights etc and I have never spent them yearning for a fag. Why? Because it was simply the situation I was in that meant I couldnt smoke - I knew it was a temporary state and so my mind happily went along with it.

Time to take control of that free will gene and change its perception - I am not being deprived of anything. The human body would never physically demand something that is in essence a poison. Rather i am actually exerting my free will by CHOOSING not to smoke.

No-one has taken my toy away - I have simply lost interest in it, put it down and wandered off to find something more rewarding instead.

    Lesson to self #1 over.

Good luck to everyone and forgive my ramblings. It is my way of getting through this and if it helps anyone else then shout. Lets share this journey and get as many of us through it as we possibly can.

Morning all, well I woke up this morning with a sore throat and a bit of a cold, so today shouldn't be a challenge. Never could smoke when I was ill.

hope you all have a good, smoke free, monday
