Scary time with the floods in stafforshire the lakes near me have burst their banks and the fields surrounding me are now lakes with ducks swimming on them! The water line is now only about 15 metres from my front door eeekkk, luckily enough I'm on an incline so I should be safe! It was scary driving about today though, the roads are so dangerous and like rivers!
Hope you stay dry and the waters go back to where they should be! Take care if you have to go out.

Question can anyone remember where the links to the posts about the emergency car kits & what to put in them are?

I thought they were on the front page but can't find them..... I found them a while ago for someone else too!:o

  • Anyone else's car boots looking pretty full? I've got a large bag with most stuff in but then I bought tyre tracks so they are in there, a screen cover and a telescopic brush/ice scraper! Ah well at least I'm prepared for anything!

Checked netweather, here in Cardiff we have a 70% chance of snow next Saturday! Lots can change between now & then but I remember reading somewhere about the possibility of snow end nov/beginning dec! We'll see!

Does anyone have a suggestion for my cold hallway, the reason is that we have a cat flap and it blows in the wind and lets all the cold air in.

The cat is an outdoor cat does not use a litter tray and is nearly 20 so really don't want to try and start that now.

Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you solve it.

Also the microchip activated cat flaps are out of our range as things are tight just now.
My cats use their flap and I've got a door curtain over. Also keep it hair free otherwise it wont shut flush. x

I didn't think we had had *that* much rain over the weekend, rain yes but our school playground was roped off in places and big big puddles everywhere. I have never seen it so wet so we must have had a lot more than I thought

My house is reasonably high in relation to surrounding roads so I don't think there is much chance of flooding for me... I would be living on my nerves otherwise.

I really feel for people whose houses flood, or look like they might :(

i was watching the news last night (rare occassion, i generally find it too depressing to watch) and seeing those homes so hard hit and knowing more is coming just made me feel such sympathy for all those affected.

the stress of it must be overwhelming mentally as well as physically. i wish anyone that's under threat or dealing with it right now strength and best wishes for getting things back to rights as soon as possible
  • The rain storm has now been joined by another one which will stall and bring very heavy rain to the Midlands then move north. Take care folks.

  • We were given notice from the environment agency last night that we were due to flood, the advice was to move possesions and protect property etc. So we moved the low lying electricals, made sure elderly neighbours were ok etc etc.

Went to bed not expecting to sleep, ready to jump out of bed and grab more stuff, waiting for our flood sirens to sound, phones rang again......flood agency to say we were not on flood warning anymore, when we checked on the web site it turned out our warning was made in error!

Still had a sleepless night as by that point we were all pumped up in adrenaline, but i'd rather they were over cautious. Might leave stuff packed away for a couple of days just incase!

My friend who is a forecaster in the states says he sees more heavy rain for the UK over the next few days then a very cold spell with freezing temperatures and snow near the end of the week.

I have gone 10 days ahead and we are coming into a dry spell. It seems the nightime lows will be -5 and the daytime highs are about 5 degrees. That seems to be the trend. Whether we will get snow I don't know. Those temperatures are cold enough for sleet/snow though.

We need this dry spell because we have to get the excess rainwater away. The fields are waterlogged. I feel sorry for those who are flooded out of their homes. The insurance companies are not that quick on getting claims settled and even when they do there is a serious spike in increased premiums!!

Sorry ... no :o - it was a list I'd done & there was another older one too.

Sure it was in the 2011 thread so will have a hunt through shortly.

    ETA found it!

Yes thanks for that...I do hope places will get a dry spell to help dry out the houses, roads, fields, businesses...its horrendous. It must be awful for those flooded and to get a freeze on top when you probably have no heating etc must be terrible for them. The earth just can't soak up any more water in the UK.
