Preparing for winter IV
Comments
-
I've finally managed to get the winter coats, hats, scarves, and gloves all washed. Laundry was held up briefly due to a leak that is now sorted quickly and cheaply, thank goodness.
We're all sniffling and sneezing here. Not sure where it originated, but it certainly spread through the house quickly enough. I hadn't yet stocked up on cold meds so find myself without them. Hopefully I can pick some up tomorrow.
The pantry stock up is progressing slowly, but I will start adding more now that we're coming into October. I'm also slowly building up credit on the electric and gas meters.
The weather's been pretty mild here, so no heat on yet.Saving, decluttering and doing alright.:xmastree: :xmastree:0 -
I've been lurking again...popping out to say hello.
Had both cars serviced and mot'd, both roadworthy for Winter. Picked up a can of de-icer from Home Bargains today so thats the car box started (I would have picked up more but a full basket plus a pram doesn't make shopping easy!)
I got a 5kg bag of brown rice and 3kg bag of lentils in the larder cupboard (thank you Makro)
Someone bought DD a cosy dressing gown for her birthday so thats something else off the list.
Both DD and DS have cosy winter jackets. I got DD a knitted hat with a HUGE bobble :rotfl:
Still got loads to do :eek:0 -
Heads up, tesc0 has the rice pouches (micro) on offer for 49p so a good time to stock up on those. I bought 10 pouches as they are great for emergency illness food. I mix with a tin of chicken soup (or tin chicken in white sauce) and a tin of peas/corn for a faux risotto which the kids and I love and is a bit more substantial than just soup, plus the kids can prepare and heat it for us all if needs be. Pure comfort food and it takes under 6 mins from tins to plate
Fray Bentos pies are also on offer so I got one of those for store cupboard emergency (or when I just fancy a dirty FB Pie! lol) Putting these winter preps here so I don't forget!

nah.. its pointless.. protects against very few strains of flu, and we don't do vaccines in here. Everyone I know who has it is horrifically ill within a few months.. having had flu once 25 years ago I'll take my chances .. informed choice and all.
I completely agree with you. While studying, we did several sessions on iatrogenic illnesses. I avoid any medications that could potentially make me ill. I rely on my immune system and eating food that is good for me
also hand washing0 -
Have to admit i may be having my flu jab after immune system was virtually destroyed by swineflu.
But every other vaccination no chance, we rely on good natural food and drinks. Plenty of honey, rest and juice soon puts colds to sleep.
My eldest is very rarely ill, never had jabs and is immune system is amazing. My youngest is like me, no vaccinations but attracts illnesses. But when ds2 does get ill within a couple of days hes fine.
DS1 is like his father never ill, hes never been vaccinated for anything and never will.
Decided to get some boots today with fleece. Spotted them for £22 not fantastic but they will do me for collecting ds2 up from school. Fingers crossed the fleece will warm my legs up and stave off arthritic pain0 -

EVERYONE you know? Of all the dozens of people I know through various clubs I belong to, (generally of the older generation) I haven't heard of anyone becoming horrifically ill as a result of a flu vaccine.0 -
Everyone has their own opinions on the flu vaccine (or any other vaccine for that matter) and they are entitled to them. That's why I said "consider". Each to their own. We all have reasons for having them or not having them.
But some of us might want to include it in our "winter prep". It wasn't meant to start a debate
Store cupboard had a few more bits added yesterday. This week I'm going to check if either of the 2 pushchair covers actually fit the pushchair I have :rotfl: and if not I'll order a universal fit one. I'm sure one cover just clings to the edge of the hood, so the fabric hood itself gets wet - I prefer one that will cover the whole thing, including the back so any school bags hung on can stay dry too
Bossymoo
Away with the fairies :beer:0 -
I have my flu vaccine every year, have no side-effects and have been flu free for 10 years!I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -

I think it is a good reminder and appreciate it
I have had the flu jab a few times but not every year. However, I will be having it again this year as I am a single working parent and if I am unable to work due to illness, I do not get paid  It may or may not prevent me getting flu but I have to feel that I am doing all I can to prevent it. Plus, my asthma seems to be worse this year than in the last 15 years  so I need to protect myself.
I only got ill once after the flu jab and I cannot say with any confidence that it wasn't a coincidence, who knows! I may have got ill if I hadn't had it. It certainly wasn't flu anyway. The last time I had REAL flu was about 17 years ago and in that time I have only had about 4 flu jabs.Putting these winter preps here so I don't forget!

I know about 4 people that have had it so yes, EVERYONE. Also I never said 'as a result of' ... I said within a short period afterward.
I wouldn't have it if it was guarantee'd it would protect from all strains for the rest of my life.
I've never had a flu jab and been flu free for 25 years.. I think I'm safe enough... cue influx of germs lol I truly believe overloading our systems with vaccines stops the immune system from learning how to function properly.. but you do for yourself what you think is right given the info you have. I have never had any vaccines in my life and I'm not yet dead.
Like I said.. I made an informed choice which is what everyone should do.
Stocked up on more cold and flu capsules after DS1's partner took a box home.
I need to get the curtain pole up at the French doors and get the fleece hung this week.. the draught through those doors is magnificent.. I also need to ring the window company about fixing 2 of my windows.. one is jammed locked.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0
