My youngest son is eligible due to diabetes, OH and I are eligible as 'carers' .. I just won't, DS3 is too big to be forced so decides for himself.. bit hard to get an almost 16 year old male to sit still for a jab if he doesn't want to and OH has never been offered it.. I don't think he would have it though..

  • Keeping my eyes peeled for some fabric or a pair of curtains that have been suitably reduced. :) We've just had new French doors put in our kitchen/dining room...they'll let lots of extra warmth in during the day (south facing) but will need to be covered in the evenings/at night to keep things cosy. Also, hoping to add one at the front door.

Hoping it'll mean we don't need the kitchen or hall radiators on at all once the cold weather arrives this year. :) We usually have 2 rads on downstairs and 2 upstairs just before we wake up and from when we get home until 10pm, so if we can get that down to 3 rads during the same time slots it'll cut our heating oil use by quite a chunk (esp. as the hall and kitchen rads are both unnecessarily HUGE!)

We've also added heat foil behind the other 3 radiators to help them keep a little more heat inside, so we're really interested to watch the oil levels this year.

My flat is driving me nuts!

We've just had a new boiler installed by the landlord (finally!) which is great but my flat is so damp and humid! My alarm clock has a hygrometer on it to measure humidity and it's constantly between 65%-73%.

You can feel it when you breathe, it's horrible! I've had all of my windows open all day to try to get rid of it but it's not budging. It's starting to get on my chest and my bf has asthma, he had to go for a walk outside last night at 3am because he couldn't breathe! We also have black mould on the external walls which I have to get rid of every 3 months. The only room in the house not affected is the kitchen which is weird because it's the only room we dry clothes indoors in!

We're waiting for a friend to lend us a dehumidifier but it'll be a few weeks before they can get it to us.

Anyone got any suggestions in the meantime?

I would speak to Shelter-they have a helpline regarding housing issues & tenants and issues of disrepair.

Sadly, nothing they can do. I spoke to them a few years ago and, because I don't live in a property that requires an HMO there's no minimum standard.

I had a quick look in Primarni earlier and bought some of their super-soft lined footless tights. Last time I looked they only had the velvet touch ones which are too thick (although I guess could be amazing on a snowy day). But these super-soft ones are fab as leggings, completely opaque and a slightly fleeced inner so still warm. £3.50 each so I got 2 to see me through colder days. I've even been known to wear these under jeans on a really chilly day ;)

Still no thermals in sainsbobs - I'll wait until they do as I find these are a good fit for my kiddies, and nice designs. Mr A ones aren't really long enough to tuck in...

DD has been cosy today, our friend gave her some boots with a fluffy lining that her DD grew out of. She's worn them with wooly tights, a skirt and a big fleece sweater and looks very cute and autumnal.

Windows were dripping inside this morning

We also had condensation on the dining room window. The bedroom window was ok, the window is open all night.

We had new bath and basin taps fitted today. We have had new ones waiting to be fitted for about 2 years. The old ones were corroded. The new ones don't drip, so much better if we get sub zero temperatures.

I'm going to put the remainder of my summer clothes away at the weekend.

We've still got some tidying up to do in the garden but it might have to wait until October half term so hoping for a few good days.

I love reading about everyone's prepping, so please keep your tips coming.

    Hi everyone :)

I have given up on putting away many of my summer clothes away( only shorts and sandals really)
I layer up rather than wearing thick clothes ( I am getting to a funny age so need to peel a layer off occasionally ) wear thick tights with thinner skirts and my not quite so new t shirts under blouses and jumpers and with pyjama bottoms. Not much makes it to the charity shop any more I'm afraid.

My prepping is mainly tinned food this year cos last years candles and still in the cupboard. My main expense this year is a timer for the electric fan heater cos OH gets up at 5 30 and it's cheaper for a quick blast from that than putting the central heating on at 5 00. We live in a static caravan so heating a small space is quite a quick process.

I've unravelled 2 crochet blankets I had made and am knitting big blocks of double thickness in my spare time too.

    Better go
    Happy prepping everyone :)

  • Last night after work OH and I put the garden furniture and washing line away in the shed. The garden looks loads bigger without them!

I still need to get pot feet for the pots, I think the (elderly and tatty) deck will rot away underneath the pots if we have another wet winter. The pot feet should allow the deck to dry out a bit...

And I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the wormery - there's no room at all in the shed.....

I've planted out bulbs but haven't cleared the annuals away yet, they are still flowering so they can stay. The garden will get finished off eventually!
