I know about 4 people that have had it so yes, EVERYONE. Also I never said 'as a result of' ... I said within a short period afterward.

I wouldn't have it if it was guarantee'd it would protect from all strains for the rest of my life.

I've never had a flu jab and been flu free for 25 years.. I think I'm safe enough... cue influx of germs lol I truly believe overloading our systems with vaccines stops the immune system from learning how to function properly.. but you do for yourself what you think is right given the info you have. I have never had any vaccines in my life and I'm not yet dead.

Like I said.. I made an informed choice which is what everyone should do.

Oh boy!!! I do hope you haven't doomed yourself here, Pigpen!!! lol Maybe go touch some wood :D

I absolutely think everyone has the right to do what they think is best for them :) What suits one, won't suit all and that is ok :)

I'll just scare them away.. I'm too busy for unwellness. :p

I do OCD level handwashing and illness avoidance.. everyone knows if they ar eill not to come to my house which is why I was utterly annoyed when DIL came Saturday with a stonking cold.. cue me feeling hideous yesterday, today I am fixed.. I suffer in other ways, my eczema is having a flare up, first in 6 years! so my arms are so very sore and my food intolerances are increasing in severity and range.. lucky me! I probably eat a better diet now than I ever have which must help.

But I probably have doomed myself lol.

I booked my son's flu jab today and he'll have it on October 10th. He had flu 2 years back and was hospitalised with it he was almost put onto a ventilator as his SATs were so low and he was having trouble breathing. The flu jab seems to have helped the last few years.

Tomorrow I am taking down the long and impractical curtains from our bedroom and putting up shorter ones which fit the window better. The long curtains I will put up over the front and back door as an extra layer against the cold.

Sorting out winter clothing and shoes this week too. I need to buy a poncho for my son for him to use when he's in the wheelchair. I'm in the middle of applying to a charity an actual raincover (they're £165) so the poncho will have to do for now.

  • Just a word on the flu jab - I had one a few years ago which instantly hurt. As the days went on it felt like it had hit bone and I couldn't sleep or use my right had to use the mouse for the PC. It went on for months and then was diagnosed as frozen shoulder. It seems the pain from the jab caused me to make smaller and stranger movements with my shoulder to alleviate the discomfort. I had to have weeks of physio before it went.

Winter preps are sort of underway here. I took DD for new fluffy socks & pjs from Primarni on Friday while she was off for Inset, so she's now sorted. She's just asking for leather gloves so I'll have a look in Mr A when I next go down there.

Saturday I fixed the dehumidifier which DD had dropped, she'd displaced the fan so it was really really noisy. While I had it to pieces I cleaned it up as well as there was a thick layer of dust on the inside. Its now sitting by the freezer doing its thing with the damp in that back corner. My freshly painted chocolate coloured walls are wet with damp, previously it was almost white so you couldn't see it. Its the blocked up chimney so its trapped moisture from before it was capped last year or the year before. Hopefully if I leave it there until it stops collecting moisture the black mould won't be an issue this year ;) The 0.5litre tank is about 1/3rd full and its been there less than 24 hours.

Windows are starting to run with condensation again, not helped by DD washing her hair every morning before school and me having steaming hot baths to try and clear out the cold I have. I had a man out on Friday with the landlady who is going to replace the glass parts of the windows in my room and the livingroom due to them steaming up in between the panes of glass (apparently that means the seals have gone). While he was here I mentioned how the sealant has pulled away from the frame around all the windows causing quite noticeable draughts when its windy ;) Hopefully he'll get his men to redo that when they're here if my landlady is willing to pay for it to be done.

I really want a rug for the dining area of the livingroom. We hardly use the space as the floor is so cold (laminate flooring laid on top of Quarry tiles!) but to get a good sized one is going to cost upwards of £45 so debating whether to go to the local carpet shop & see how much they'd charge for an off cut & binding of some form ;)

My grandma was fanatical about getting the flu jab so much so she went for the jab even though she was feeling poorly. She died as a result because of being so weak.

The very thing she was worried about killed her in the end. Just be careful is all I am saying.

I am thinking of paying for the flujab as I work with vulnerable adults daily. I just have to let go of the worries I have regarding it surrounding the silly decision my grandma made.

Oh Fuddle that is sad :( I do think that if you are already weak or poorly, having the flu jab can be counter-productive as in your Grandma's case. A family member here had the flu jab after many strokes and was very weak. We don't think he every really recovered after it.

My winter preps this week will consist of de-cluttering and making the downstairs cosy for winter :) I also want to empty the larder and re-organise it. With 2 kiddies that like to put empty packets back in the cupboard, it really needs a good sort out

  • I get the flu jab every year. However this year my surgery's nurse was replaced. I went for a blood test and I don't know what the nurse did but I felt her scratch me as she pulled out the needle. Not only my arm wouldn't stop bleeding but the area was swollen and the pain in my arm lasted a whole 2 days. The surgery was very apologetic and sent me home with some ibuprofen. I found I would have to face the same nurse for my jab so I'm not having it!

My winter preparations include making marrow soup for freezing. Storing apples (I have a huge box donated by our kind neighbour) which will provide hopefully lots of crumble over the cold months.
I got a retractable curtain rod to set a short curtain behind the front door (to cover the glass upper half of the dorr). Also bought some white fleece to line our bedroom curtains.

It only costs around £10 (or less) to have it done at a pharmacy either in supermarket or high street. I have to say, a jab is much easier than a blood test so it would be difficult for her to mess that up. I'd happily do my own! Don't let it stop you from having one if you want it :)
