I did the same CH27, bought things that I didn't use. I think I went into Panic Mode :D

I always feel inadequate when I see how much loo roll some people store:o

  • Thank you all for your suggestions.

Rosieben - I will go through your detailed list later.

I hadn't even thought about the garden. I will be out there tomorrow if its dry to pack furniture away.

I probably need a few more throws as DD has taken to wrapping herself in the one we have.

I also have 2 babies so need to prepare for milk running out. I think you can freeze milk so will put some bottles in the freezer - when I have cleared it out a bit.

Very important to have loo roll :)

I have done some prep for winter, but I need to really do some more.
The car now has a box with a blanket, gloves, hat, extra socks, wellies, couple of sealed water bottles, couple of orange juice cartons, high-vis jackets, some raisin and chocolate bars with a long date on and just need to add some boots/wellies in for OH. I should hope to not use the car bits but it's good to know they are there.
Regards to home, I have most of the tins in but would like to do some batch cooking when I get time for the freezer also. Need to do a good check through the cupboards and then add to my shopping list. Toiltries not to bad on but I will do a check and buy what is needed! I should be having some shelves going up from Wednesday so I then have a small pantry - I am hoping this will help me stock up and keep a better track :o
We do have the longlife milk in, due to living in a very rural location I keep a reasonable stock most of the year through anyway - you just never know :rotfl:
Going to read back through some more now and gather myself some tips :D
Christmas is the most magical time of the year :santa2:

  • Just looking on Aldi's website for their special buys starting next sunday 12th. They have a few prepping items, bedspread, sunrise alarm clock, duvets & pillows, heated throw for the sofa, this sounds lovely!!

I've tried to keep the heating off here but its gone so cold I whacked the gas fire on full yesterday morning for a bit. The first time I put it on each year I do that so it burns off all the dust that's collected & I've not been able to clean out ;) DD was sat on the floor right in front of it drinking a very hot coffee & still complaining she was cold! She went off to school in her big winter waterproof & gloves! She went out in her big waterproof again today, minus the gloves which she's managed to put her finger through already! :wall:

So yesterday I put the central heating on just to warm the system up and check to see if the radiators needed bleeding or not. It was lovely and warm sitting in the livingroom at 20C but I turned it off, and only switched it back on last night before bed. I'd checked the weather and as it was going to be quite cold & clear I knew it'd be freezing when we got up without the heating. I think we'll go for this option as much as possible for the foreseeable. Its just a flick of a switch as I go up to bed and then as I come down in the morning as the controller is on the stairs. We have plenty of layers, fluffy socks, a quilt, blankets we can snuggle under of an evening, its just that initial getting out of bed thing that's the problem :rotfl:

I'm going to order a couple of double quilts for the livingroom (I use quilt covers as throws) to sit on and another single one with a couple of covers to snuggle under. Much quicker to throw 4 quilt covers in the machine/drier than try to and launder throws. ;)

Today I have an electrician friend coming to look at my hob. It decided to start tripping the RCD (???) whenever its switched on. I think water has got into it but better to be safe than sorry. If its more than a bit of water than I'll go to the landlady to get it repaired, but with an electric hob and it shorting I don't want to risk electrocution or fire!
