I just put on my new jumper that I forgot I bought about a year ago. It's 100% acrylic and it's quite warm.:)

I'm going to order a couple of double quilts for the livingroom (I use quilt covers as throws) to sit on and another single one with a couple of covers to snuggle under. Much quicker to throw 4 quilt covers in the machine/drier than try to and launder throws. ;)

That's a good idea. I have a single patchwork type quilt cover that I might use as a snuggly blanket as my pets have seemed to claim my fleecy blankets.

Hi, I've been way back through this thread and have found lots of very useful ideas for keeping warm - so a very big thank you to all the posters, I'm now ready for 'The Big Freeze' with one exception. I do need some new thermal ladies' vests which I have bought from Primark in the past, and I wonder does anybody know if they have them in stock yet please? I particularly like these because they are nice and long, so no cold gaps between trousers and tops!

Thank you Fruball - I'll head over to my nearest store tomorrow (2 hour journey) - it's a very large one so they probably will have them there as well then.

As it is so far, why not phone them before you go? Would be awful to make the trip to find they don't have them! Although I am sure they will do. From memory, prices have gone up a fair bit and they were £5

Good idea, I'll give them a ring in the morning. I think the last time I bought them they were £4, but even at £5 not a bad price.

We have been working hard at reducing our electric bill and ensuring we utilse E7 more..... Resulting in a £120 reduction per year on our DD. This has been since April so we are going to keep monitoring it incase it goes back up over winter but they have averaged against our spend last year. Oh and we are £70 in credit!!!

Just got to keep the oil usage down!

I am getting loads of tinned stuff in as well as Xmas stuff. Two selves in cupboard crammed packed. I keep a book to record what i think i will need and what is actually in my stash.
Yesterday i did a recount as Asda had delivered my weekly order, surprise, surprise 15 tins of rice pudding. My DH is forbidden to go near the cupboard, he was warned of what would happen to him.
We live in a rural area and winters can be bad, cutting us off for days. It is important to me having the food stash in, just in case.

Watch out for bashed tins in supermarket delivered orders. I have had a succession of dented tins in my orders recently. Given that a dent can be dangerous to the food stuffs inside, I either have had to use quickly if the dent isn't too bad, or discard. Useless for prepping purposes even if I was to go down the refund route.
  • Unpack the tins before the driver goes away FUDDLE and you have the right to refuse to accept any damaged goods and should get a refund. Don't accept anything that is not perfect. He should take them back and you shouldn't be charged.
