I've bought some new draught excluders for my dad's house today. His other ones were falling apart when I got them out this morning.

I have French doors in the middle of my bay window alcove and I can't for the life of me fathom what to do with them. Currently they have vertical blinds. It's slightly insulated as leads to a conservatory so not directly outside, but still could use something more.

The only thing I've come up with so far is just cutting off the entire alcove with a room-wide curtain and pole.

Booked my next online shop, as I was sent a delivery pass for a month. Taking the opportunity to stock up on tea bags, tinned stuff and some other things we are a bit low on.

New pushchair cover arrived this week, just in time for a drenching on Thursday. Lucky DD! DS and I were soaked by the time we got home from school. Well, we were both dry on top but the rain just ran down our lovely waterproof coats and landed on our legs <doh>. Still, better than wet head and shoulders. It was heavy rain too, coming sideways and blowing hoods off, lol.

Note to self, DD has long legs and next time would be better with wellies poking out of the bottom than her lovely new Clarks boots <double doh>

I've cleaned my car out today and brought my box in from the boot, so I'll check it has winter stuff and a couple of cereal bars in too...

Ok many thanks for that everybody. She will not sew and her partner can't do DIY so this is going to involve the RV in some way lol and mean a trip to Ikea or Dunelm and a lot of moaning...

Well, I had my flu jab yesterday-10th in a row now after having severe pneumonia and pleurisy 11 years ago.

I've just had 6x5 litre bottles of water delivered, 6x1 litre long life milk, 32 toilet rolls, 6 boxes of tissues. 3x Milton Surface Spray bottles, 3x antiseptic hand wash, sugar and teabags.

There are loads of tins of veg and fruit in juice, tinned mackerel and tinned sardines to eat on toast, pasta, tinned tomatoes, pasta sauces, flour, medicines, soap, toothpaste, washing powder, candles, batteries, porridge and cereal, ice melt salt and a cover for our car, as we don't have a garage.

I've bought two more soft, warm throws, warm brushed cotton sheets and pillowslips, I've got 4 hot water bottles, got boots, tights, long tunic tops, scarves, gloves and a few coats.

If we are in for 5 months of cold, we're ready. Bring it on!

And keep safe and warm folks.

;) Felines are my favourite ;)

I bought 4 thermal embossed panel curtains from The R+nge and apart from looking gorgeo they will hopefully keep the warmth in and each panel was only £11 so was chuffed.:j

Does anybody have ideas for a large patio door that covers a whole wall in my daughter's new house? She says its pretty cold now so will be worse come winter. it's floor to ceiling and two wide glass doors.

I know I'm getting old now because when I see those kind of huge windows, lovely as they are, all I can think of is how they will let in the cold, how difficult they will be to keep clean and how they make you feel like you are on show when its dark and gloomy outside lol!

I like to feel snuggled and cosy when its cold and blowy outside so it has to be curtains for me every time.
:hello:  please play nicely children !

I was going to order some thermal curtains from Dunelm, does anyone know if they are any good? My curtains are too thin for cold weather.

I haven't bought thermal ones from Dunelm , but I do have thermal blackout linings from the Yorkshire Linen Co, and they seem pretty good. It also means I can put them on any curtains I fancy if needs be. Might be worth a look, and a cheaper option if you are wanting to be MSE.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

if you're not worried too much how linings will look, you can usually buy thermal lining off the roll in fabric shops. The one I have doesn't fray because it's got some sort of rubberised? coating & you can attach it with safety pins if necessary :)

I have a sewing machine I can't sew & some small bulldog clips came in very handy before a friend sorted mine out :)

I ordered 4 new hot water bottles and have decided to make some cosy covers, nothing fancy but another way of using some of my yarn stash from donkey`s years ago. Debbie Bliss aran wool, not enough for anything else but plenty for covers. Free patterns from ravelry. I found one called `all you need - a classic` ooh I love mindless knitting, a brilliant reason to sit with feet up

Thanks for all the ideas re the curtains.:T I will look online later today.

I moved a low sideboard in front of the garden door to block some of the draft and it seems to be working quite well and doesn't look as bad as I would have expected it to.

One thing I don't like about this time of year is the fireworks, we had a few last night and my dogs went crackers.
