Preparing for winter IV

Hello
I've topped up my stock of bread flour, flour and sugar this morning. I have another 20% off voucher for our local farm shop, It's to be used before the end of the month so the freezer will be restocked.
My winter wardrobe has been neglected for quite awhile. Mum gave me a 20% off voucher for m&s so I've treated myself to some ankle boots, socks and cord leggings.
The gardener has been and trimmed the ivy back. The kitchen roof will be redone early October. Preps coming along nicely.
Our heating remains off, although getting the washing dry is not quite so easy due to misty, still weather.

Well I am hoping that we can go another month without heating. The blankets are in a basket in the living room now so if anyone gets chilly they can put one of those around them. Ds was whinging it was cold yesterday but he was walking around in boxer shorts!!£370/£300 April challenge :T:T0

I got my faulty quilt cover exchanged, just needs washing now - I will have to remember to check the seams before washing this time! We don't need the heating on either, hopefully it will be a good while yet, but a tad cool in the evenings so we're breaking out the jumpers, dressing gowns and fleeces for now. Adult DS has a bad habit of walking round in t-shirt and shorts, too, then complaining he's cold.
Adult DS has very kindly bottomed the pantry today, all debugged and hoovered, and next week we're going to slop a load of cheap masonry paint in it (stone walls and floors, plus stone shelf) to brighten it up a bit - will also be able to see the bugs and mice more easily! :rotfl:

Popped into L*dl this afternoon for milk and came across some door draught excluders. £4.99 each in different styles. Floral, seaside and checked fabrics. Well made with sand for weight. Cheapest I've seen around.0

Decided to visit the farm shop today. Got plenty of their own sausages, steak mince, lamb mince and their homemade burgers were buy six get six free. Also had a card full of loyalty stamps so got six free pork and chive sausages. Picked up onions, celery and carrots and now have two sausage casseroles on the stove. They will go in the freezer tomorrow.
I used my 20% voucher so money saving as well. Love it when the cupboards are well stocked.

Thanks Kittie good to know we're not looking at a deep freeze just yet... Wonder what the winter months will bring this time. Last year seemed like a loooong winter, but it was wet and windy rather than very low temps.
I definitely need something waterproof to wear on the school run. We have a new building and the Year 1 kiddies (my DS) line up outside and there is no canopy any more. May also invest in a golfing brolly. And I will check the pushchair cover - have a feeling it may have torn.Bossymoo

Cheapskate wrote: »I'm still learning to crochet and knit, but have nearly finished a simple crochet blanket for DD, who is due her first baby in a few weeks, and have made neck snoods for the littlies. I've seen a pattern for a road trip scarf, so have treated myself to some slightly better wool (the other things are from £shop wool) - if it works out, I'll make one for my sister for Christmas. The littlies want me to make more woolly stuff (their phrase!) to snuggle up in, something nice to do when the nights draw in!

If you are looking for nice yet affordable wool then I would highly recommend the Drops range
you can get it at Wool Warehouse they also sell Stylecraft which is a lovely acrylic yarn if that is the way you want to go

I got my annual summary from 3-on today and I've cut my gas usage by 26% compared to Sep 2012-Sep 2013
Unfortunately my electricity has gone up 6% for the same period.
So my aim is to try and get our electricity usage down by 6% over the next year
I'm getting a fridgefreezer so that'll be one less appliance on constantly, but DD now has a radio alarm and our fr33view box is playing up so we have to leave it on constantly
I'm sure we'll manage it, I just need to get back into the habit of switching things off

It was so warm and muggy the last few days and I had to go back to sleeping with just a sheet. We had thunderstorms here too. Today feels much cooler and it's time to get out the winter blanket again (!) and put on a cardigan. The weather is very unpredictable.:D
We are switching over to a new energy supplier but we are in credit so will will getting that money back from the old company.
The heating is not going on for another month at least I hope.:)HOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000
