Was that caused by the snow Mardatha?? or the winds as we have had it pretty blowy down here on the other end of the map!

Wind - few places had gusts over 100mph. We had some snow today but it vanished again.

Yes we fine, apart from no phone service all day and my daughter is quite ill in hospital and I couldn't call to see how she was. But a coal fire and a calor gas cooker work in powercuts and we were fine, ty :)
  • Anyone still here?
I know it's now winter though, so fair enough I guess but it seems a bit too quiet on the thread.
Is it my imagine or do we seem to spend more money on food in the winter and if so, how many put money aside during the summer in the run up to it?

    I not really cold yet!
    Must be my age!

It is hard to get clothes dry on the line as the air is so damp. Have got a load of washing out, there is some wind, but it's not drying well.
I have one of those indoor pull lines in my utility with about 4 lines on one. So it'll have to come in there later. Then every body will moan because they have to fight through the washing to get anything -it's only a small room, and I refuse to use the dryer unless it's life or death!

I think I spend less on food in winter, because I use the slow cooker more, and make piles of "bolognaise" etc to use with lasagne, chilli and so forth.
I'm also bad at buying salad in winter (smack on hand)
I also tend to buy masses of carrots cheap & a sack of potatoes.
The sack of spuds costs £7.00 and lasts for ages & ages, as long as I keep it in the shed, in the cold & dark with the top folded over. I just bring in enough for 3 or 4 meals at a time-don't like the shed in the dark!!!

Where is the "worst freeze for 100 years"?:)
