  • That's what I am after for next year, a chest freezer. We always had one growing up, I once got my tongue stuck to it licking inside it!

I also want a tumble dryer too. I dont have a washing line so always end up putting hte radiators on to get the washing dry, fine in the winter but not in the summer, would be cheaper to run a tumble dryer.

Has anyone else got this winter bug? It's knocking me for 6.

My turn for a question now - can anyone suggest a VERY low cost solution to inside window condensation, DD's bedroom is suffering with a very wet window, her room is about 8x6ft, sloping ceiling and over the garage, it isn't the warmest room but she hasn't got the Rad on yet as she gets too warm in the night if the rad has been on during the day/evening. Because the window is on the sloping ceiling the condensation runs down the wall, I can solve that [tea towel tucked behind the blind cords at the bottom of the window] but I've no idea what to do to stop the water

    Thanks
    Helen
Helen, would it help stop the condensation if you put some 'double glazing' cling film stuff on the window? We used to have this problem at our old house, and it was a bit better when we used the film.

Sorry been missing in action for a while, but I have been reading the threads. My OH hurt his back sneezing and had to stay in bed then got the dreaded virus (the cough one) on top of it...which did nothing good to his back at all. He is now up but passed the virus on to me. He is still very iffy with it , but I am only on day three and feeling better.

Lovely weather here still, its amazing for October, but I can't help but think we are going to get a very cold winter again like we did last year. Most people seem to think Greece has hot sun all the year round. You wouldn't believe the number of people who arrive here to live and bring only shorts and tshirts! It gets very cold sometimes ( minus thirteen one year, and stayed there...our well froze and we had to wash in bottled water ). I am prepared for it now...if its warm, around 14 degrees, we will get storms and torrential rain.

But as I say, its still lovely out. Have been getting the house ready for the winter but some things had to be put off until I stopped running up and down stairs to look after my OH. The virus has knocked him for six this time and lots of people in the village have it. I fear for the old folks as its going to make them really ill.

Bought a new warm scarf yesterday and a long sleeved top that was cheap so that is me ready for the winter weather if it ever comes our way. I already had ski thermals that I got from Lidl's last year. I loved them, they were so warm and cosy on my scooter.

No wood available for the fire yet, but I did see something amazing. Its a metal contraption that fits under the wood and distributes all the heat instead of it going up the chimney. I am making enquiries about it and need to know how much it is. If its too expensive I will leave it.

Hope you all have a lovely Sundayxx

I also need to stock up on the electricity for the winter. I'll start this week! Be it only a few £ extra but If I top up once a week it will build up. I have a pot going for logs & coal & DH will need to get down to the coal yard this week for logs. I have a large void in the fireplace to store them so the sooner I fill it up the drier they will be for the next couple of months.

I haven't got the outside sorted yet for the coal shed so I'll have to buy large bags for now & store them by the back door.

I'm really excited to get my chest freezer (never had one before):j..... so sad is that! Excited over a white good:rotfl:

Everything is about done for us. I bought the four pints of semi skimmed milk and sunk that in the freezer. It is just stuff now like clearing up the leaves and tidying the garden.

Oh I love the snow! TBH I'm looking forward to becoming stuck up here:D - but its OK for now. Once I get a job it will become a PITA......but as I'm a SAHM for the time being I'll embrace it!
  • I got some fab "thinsulate" gloves this morning from Aldi, only £2.99 and they feel really thick. I've been looking for some thicker ones as all mine are too thin when I'm walking with the mutt and the pushchair.

In other news, I've given my toenails their "winter cut"; does that count as winter prep?!? :rotfl:
