(picked as the first answer on my search...) I have one in my garden but need to get a new cover. If you manage to get it in the most sheltered part of the garden, they can help a lot. Remember, some plants will die off in winter but come back in the spring, so you only need to protect the non hardy plants.
I didn't even know these existed! And it seems possible to find some under £50. I have high fences so as soon as I work out where the wind blows most of the time, it'd be easy to "secure" it in a corner of the garden.Put your pots somewhere sheltered, and if it gets very cold, you can wrap them in garden fleece, or old sheets, net curtains etc. Just make sure you check that they're not 'sweating' as it can cause mould to grow, and kill your plants. Could you make a temp shed with a frame like a cold frame against a wall to overwinter your pots in? Sorry I'm not much help. Maybe the gardeners can help more.
That's a good idea too: you can see I'm really not a gardener, I had not even thought about something so simple0 -
Lined all the curtains yesterday and today we all overslept!0

Bit chillier this morning. Walking the tots to nursery and DS asked what that funny smell was - it was misty so I explained thats what clouds smell like, lol. He was sniffing all the way there.
We were well wrapped with hats and gloves. They were excited to see some of the leaves turning golden and falling, too. They wanted to know what would happen next, so I said it's like getting our hair cut, lol. They will grow back when it gets warm again next spring.Bossymoo

Love catching up with you all and your fab ideas.
Not too much to do this year, 2nd winter in the house so lots of prep in place from last year.
Fleeces washed & up, store cupboards are getting topped up & started to pick a few things up for christmas. Will get a big chicken to put in the chest freezer which will do for christmas lunch incase the snow hits again like it did 2 years ago. I had an emergency chicken in the freezer that year & that became our christmas lunch & with an Aldi over the road who didn't miss a single delivery we coped fine.
Picked up another extendable shower curtain pole yesterday for the back door. Last year got one from argos for £10 but found one in Wilko for £5, bargain! I also picked up one of their vinyl carpet protector, only £4.65 (under floor mats on the website if want to look) thought it would be handy to put down by the front door during wet/snowy weather. I've got tiled floor which is easy to clean but a pain to wait to dry in bad weather. Easier to wipe this over & roll up out of the way.
Want to check through the car bag, it still in the boot, will replace the choc & water bottles. Will get some milk to sink in the chest freezer & some bread & frozen veg to be able to make soup or a casserole if we cant get out & about.0 -
We managed to do a car boot sale yesterday due to the lovely weather.
Only made about £25 BUT I did manage to bag a bargain.
I bought some brand new (still had the label on) Per Una, pink, fluffy, slipper boots for 50p, at least my toes will be nice and snug this winter!

Slightly worried that there is actual damp in my bedroom wall.... it's like the paint is 'sticky' on the wall paper
The colder the weather is, the worse the condensation is inside.... have my my mini de-humidifeir running but ideally I wish I could get a bigger one
Waiting for the extractors to be cleaned out, they're a bit feeble right now.

I have to admit, last year, after various chest infections for both of us and steroid tablets for my asthma going out of control, I decided to use taxis, but also some friends were taking DS2 some days so I only needed to take him to breakfast club myself once or twice a week. (better than every day.) Not very money saving on the face of it, but as it meant neither of us were off sick, it helped with looking at it laterally...
What I do is make sure I've got things to change into if I get to work wet. We have layers - I wear tights, then work trousers, and socks; DS2 has long johns. Mittens/gloves, hats, scarves, bodywarmers under/over coats. Fleecy insoles in footwear. Hot breakfast before leaving, hot drink when we get home. Change out of cold wet clothes when you get home.
It's the waiting around that does it - the winter before he started breakfast club, I was walking him to school in the snow and ice, and coped much better. Of course, we still had all the warm clothes, but becasue we kept active, the core temp doesn't drop so much.
Since I lined the then cotton curtains in the hallway with a flannelette sheet, it really does feel better out there - sheets & fleece/other sheets will be great, I think.
Thats my worry about hanging about waiting on public transport. I am in a temporary job at the moment and if I am off I don't get paid. I wasn't well on friday and really wanted to come home (OH kept asking what was wrong.....er I'm not well!), but I wouldn't have been paid! I'm off today but that was booked off to go with OH to see about his op. Again I don't get paid if I book a day off but I've tried to make it as productive as possible. Went to Holland and Barrett and got high level Vit C and B12 to boost my immune system and hopefully ward off the persistent colds I seem to be getting.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera.
