    Hi
Maybe get a flu jab? I had one last year and didn't get anything. Maybe it puts your immune system on alert because the nurse says she has one every year and never gets colds or coughs, as well as the flu.
They are £7 in Asda, I believe. And sainsburys are doing them too.
Some people qualify for an NHS one and will get a letter from their gp.

Thats my worry about hanging about waiting on public transport. I am in a temporary job at the moment and if I am off I don't get paid. I wasn't well on friday and really wanted to come home (OH kept asking what was wrong.....er I'm not well!), but I wouldn't have been paid! I'm off today but that was booked off to go with OH to see about his op. Again I don't get paid if I book a day off but I've tried to make it as productive as possible. Went to Holland and Barrett and got high level Vit C and B12 to boost my immune system and hopefully ward off the persistent colds I seem to be getting.

Hi unixgirluk i have loved a,lot of your posts on the ways to save pennies thread so thought i would try to repay some of your brilliant ideas! i still got statutory sick pay when i was off due to an op, its an administrative hassle and your employer has to sign something from what i remember, but evry little helps. you have to be off for 4 days in a row: useful for flu not colds ?!:)

other than that find a nice shop person who will let you hang around in their warm doorway until the (inevitably late)bus comes!?, also scarves scarves and more scarves. i sometimes improvise with a large cardi wound over a scarf which creates extra inches of insulation !

last thing: echinachea. tastes and looks vile but a few droplets in tea even when you havent got a cold seems to work for our family.

my sister eats a salad of raw garlic, onion and tomato for immune boost/vit c.

I have put the flannelette sheets on the kids beds today as it has been getting chilly at night so hopefully they will stay warm.

Slippers for both (Our last ones have made their way to heaven :()
    New pillows and duvet.
    Order gas bottle.

Maybe im in the wrong place, But how does everyone account for their winter grub? Want to start buying winter foods for lunches and main meals, Just we have NO storage at all. Being in a tiny doll house is rubbish for storage and a tiny freezer.

Echinacea is really good too, I used to take vit C loads and still got ill but have found this herbal product really helps to boost my immune system. - oops! Kittycatface has already suggested this! You can get it in tablet form from tesco too, atleast thats where I get mine.

Can I say thanks for the advice about the cat flap from the last thread! Will try the bubble wrap/door curtain combination. Now I just need to train them to become lap cats and all will be warm! (Both are flaked out on sofa opposite but I'm sure that will change when the weather gets colder and I leave the heating off, mwahaha!)
Switched all the duvets at the weekend, and now much more snuggly! We're hopefully getting new carpet and underlay for the bedroom next week which I hope will make the house feel warmer (we moved in with no underlay and cheap nasty thin carpet, it might as well not have been there!)
Did a final deweeding of the garden on sunday, so now we can access the back gate a lot more easily for bike trips to work. Still need to oil said gate though. I've bought some bulbs for next year, but am not entirely certain when I should plant them? I'm guessing any time now? Also, we have a raspberry and blueberry bush, I'm going to cut the raspberry down to ground level at the end of the month, does anyone happen to know if I do the same for the blueberry? This is the first time I've had a garden, and although its fun, its quite difficult for a novice!

Can buy from here by phoning and having them sent out by mail order but there are a list of stockists across the UK...but if ASDA do their own it may be worth waiting...
