Yes, I have left the curtains closed upstairs, and at the back of the house.

I figure its a little more insulation... :D

i only ever open our bedroom curtains if we'll be in them and need them for free light, otherwise they stay closed to keep the heat in or the heat out depending on the time of year, sod what the neighbours think! we don't spend a lot of time in our bedrooms anyway.

oh and i open them for flat inspections shhhhhhh ;)

I second the stretchy sheets from Lidl....they ensure a perfect fit on my non standard size Greek bed...it was described as a double but comes in somewhere between Queen and King sized. I also have a quilt on top of the mattress so the sheet has to go over that as well. I don't mind the bright colours, visitors put it down to a Mediterranean colour scheme LOL . They wash and dry easily as well....the sheets not the visitors.... I can't get brushed cotton sheets here anywhere and I don't trust the mail/couriers to deliver anything safely so daren't risk ordering online.

I remember those horrible slippy nylon sheets, they used to catch on rings etc horrible colours too!
I must put in a recommendation for the 'newstyle' stretchy fleecy sheets that Lidl stock occaisionally though. They've been mentioned before on here and although we were all reluctant to try them due to being traumitised by those old nylon sheets they are really nice and easy to wash and dry. I'm currently watching out for them. Hoping that they'll get some in again in white or cream. Unfortunately they still come in awful colours like bright green and purple!

Do let us know when you see them available again please. I won't buy if they are lurid green or purple! but if they are white/cream I will as we do need new sheets.

So glad I am not the only one! I never open my bedroom curtains and they are at the front of the house! They are pale cream and not lined so they let all the light through anyway! However, I have blackout linings for them (and have done for months now) so when I eventually get around to attaching them, I will probably have to open them :D

I have one of those microfibre sports / travel towels, but not being especially sporty (or well travelled recently :o) it's been in the garage, and only comes out when I defrost the ff.

But, I have this week been using it as a wellie mat! I have wooden floors throughout downstairs, so have laid it just inside the front door, and even the little ones are putting their boots on it nicely, and no melting snow leeching everywhere :T

After a lifetime of getting up early to go to work I've just realised that I can stay in bed a bit longer, staying warm and not using as many lights during this cold weather. I know it's silly but we weren't ever allowed a lie-in and had to be up and dressed 'in case anyone called'! Maybe this is the start of bad habits, but I don't think so as I love to be up before everyone else. Strange, I know...:o Feel a bit uncomfortable, but justifying lie-in by checking emails from my laptop!
Another thing that might be obvious to others is that I've decided to leave curtains closed upstairs during this very cold spell is to help conserve any heat there. I reckon that most days I only go in there to open the curtains!
Keep warm and safe everyone :)

Enjoy your lay-in, I know I do. Yesterday I stayed in a bed reading these forums and bargain hunting on the Internet. It was mid morning before I got showered and dressed! Wasn't expecting anyone, so no rush to get ready, lazy maybe ;)

It's raining now and the snow is disappearing. Might just have to go to the supermarket to stock up again.

i have a tablet pc winging it's way to me soon, so i will finally be able to indulge in the likes of reading emails in bed (strongly dislike laptops with their horrid keyboards and track pads :( ) i may really spoil myself and allow myself a full day off work (self employed people don't really get time off they just shoogle work around) and just poke around at the net and watch something on iplayer etc on the tablet tucked up in bed

    oh bliss!

I love my iPad, well to be honest it was a shared gift from our daughter to us both BUT I use it most of the time. I so rarely switch the main computer on these days.

Be careful, try not to keep your credit next to the bed or you could end up spending more! Yesterday I found a couple of lovely Osprey handbags in the Debenhams sale, then a code with extra 20% off. My lay-in cost me dearly:rotfl: Just waiting for the delivery, so don't have to go to town shopping.

I'm always happy to donate to the Air Ambulance: heroes!

Can I give a little plug for the various Air Ambulances :)

My Dad, my Brother and a friend were both in a serious motorbike accident, a tractor pulled out on them. My Dad unfortunately passed away at the scene of the accident, but my Brother was air lifted to hospital. They were brilliant with him (this was the Midlands Air Ambulance) Their friend was also airlifted to a different hospital.
My Brother's going in a few weeks to have a look at the air ambulance and meet the people who saved his life.

I didn't know much about them before this happened to us, but the work they all do is fantastic! They are also only funded by donations no goverment backing at all.

Please support them if you have the chance, you never know when you might need one!

*sorry for hijacking the thread :)*

my condolences to you for the loss of your father, thank heavens air rescue was there to save your brother

i personally don't mind and don't think you're hijacking the thread, in a way supporting them is just another way of preparing, i'd hate to think we would lose them as their work is invaluable and sometimes the ONLY chance to save lives in some of our remote and/or inhospitable countryside
