Hi, average gas figures have been slowly reducing as more and more people slowly switch from old fashioned boilers to newer combi/condensing boilers, however the average annual gas useage figure is still in the region of 15,000kwh /year, so if you are using only 4,800kwh per year you are doing very well. Could it be that they actually said 14,000 ??
Oops got that figure slightly wrong didnt I
Just got my notes that i wrote down yesterday when i was on phone to energy company, correct figures should say average consumption 18000 kw hrs per year and we have used 18495 over the last year ..... I'm blaming the very large glass of vino i had with my dinner, which got my 8s and 4s confused, oh and the 1000s
Still not doing bad only 495 over the average, happy with that ! Only pay £44 per month gas so happy:) 0 -
There are 2 of us and I know ours is 9 units a day averaged over a year. We are in an all electric 1 bed place and heating over the cold months is not cheap using electric for heating. No idea what it works out day to day.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy

Have you checked to see if your TV has any energy saving features?TVs are a bit tougher. My OH is forever leaving the TV on in a room entertaining itself. Drives me nuts, but I haven't found an answer to that!
I know mine can be set to turn off after it has been idle for a preset time. It also has a presence sensor that will turn it off if no viewer is detected in front of the TV for a preset time.Stompa0 -

Endless possibilities there....
But it has no such energy saving features. Can't even set it to switch off at a set time. Did think of having a timed switch external to it, but the problem is when power is restored by the switch, the TV comes on, even if it had been in standby when the power went off. The TV in question is a cheap one - could just need a new one!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Are you sure there is no sleep function? Even the most basic of my tvs have had this function for at least the past 20 years.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

It has a sleep function, but you have to select it. About as much chance of the OH doing that as there is of her switching it off as she leaves the room!

Forgive me, have I got something wrong here? Surely 18,500 kWh of gas pa would cost around £740, that is £62 or so per month. If you are only paying £44 pm then you must be racking up a deficit of £18 pm and are inevitably heading for a large catch up bill at some time in the future.0 -

I have no idea, what the cost should be, but the payments on our account have been £44 for gas and £111 for electricity but the electricity was in debit not the gas, thats what i was told anyhow! Just had direct debit increased to account for increase in electricity and was told gas was on track ...... but instead of having direct debit increased, made a lump sum payment to clear the deficit and have kept direct debits the same!0 -
Can I respectfully suggest you get someone else to double check the figures (and perhaps someone could double check mine as well!).
I reckon that 18,500 kWh of gas will cost around £725 pa (not £740 as I said before) ie £60 pm, and 11,739 kWh of electricity will cost about £1,500 pa or £125 pm.
You say your electricity dd has been increased but not by how much - I suggest therefore that if you are paying anything less than a total of £185 pm for both, at current prices you will get into an arrears situation. This does not take into account any arrears brought forward.
Hope this helps.0
