How much to live on per week

Well I don't feel I am competing against anything just saying it how it is for me and mine.
I've seen some threads on Old style where I have thought oh my god that sounds so unhealthy where is your fruit where is your veg and for ethical reasons I wouldn't be touching value chickens or eggs (not sure free range chicken is that much more ethical in the grand scheme of things but at least it's a start) with a barge pole but I have also seen some great sounding recipes on the latest cheapie thread so it's all about finding what works for you, what works with your budget etc etc if that is what you want to do.
I have been reading down shifting, simplicity and frugal living books and websites for years as it is something that interests me - I don't expect it to be of interest to everyone else. Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.

fwiw I don't care what anyone one else spends on anything, be it food, clothing, gadgets what ever.
I thought that I was helping by giving examples of what my daughter spends as a student on a low income and how she achieves that low spend. I thought thats what MSE was all about.
I won't bother in the future.0 -
I think I am a bad parent, really negligent! Three of mine are graduates and one still at uni and I couldn't tell you how much they spent on milk, meat or eggs in any week. Do people really know what their children buy and the exact price of every item? Like I said I think I am negligent but I know they eat, well I don't think they could have gone three years without eating. I know they managed on how much money they had as they didn't get into debt, other than student loan, I know they all chose to live in cheap halls but that is as detailed as it gets.
I have no idea either - but it is the internet you knowI can quite believe that some posters will be telling us exactly how many pieces of toilet roll their kids have been using per week lol!
Still 'tis interesting - even if it is made up :rotfl:(Well I hope it's made up - for their kids sakes)A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step

Believe me when I was working, running the house and looking after the kids (and my now ex husband
) I couldn't have told you the price of a pint of milk either. It went in the shopping trolley and that was that, it also ended up with a lot of food going to waste, now hardly anything goes to waste as I shop to a meal plan.
To be honest I find this thread interesting but generally some posters seem like ex alcoholics or ex smokers - they have seen the light and now they are fervent in their money saving - like converts to some wacky religion....A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step

Happens on all forums apparently. The Mob Mentality in Internet Forums: Why Weak People Join Internet Gangs
Mob Mentality is Prevalent in Most Internet Forums with Members Harassing Others Who Don't ConformIf you've spent any time in internet forums, you'll discover quickly almost every one of them has a roaming gang that engages in mob mentality. This roaming gang usually consists of a small group of people who will travel through every forum topic, posting rude, harassing, threatening and sometimes even racist, sexist and homophobic comments to others in the forums who don't agree with the thought of the group. One member of the gang will start the harassment, followed quickly by other members of the gang who encourage the original poster and add comments of their own. Others will also pile on to add often ruder and even more harassing comments to the person or people that's the target that day. But why do some people join internet gangs and engage in mob mentality and why do others not?
I think the trick is to remember why your posting - once you're not gaining useful information then find the exit button.A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step

Your quote is interesting as I've often thought this about you and your mates who wander in here from the House Price Board for no reason other to boast about your children's prowess and to give the impression that only those with ample incomes should be going to university.0 -

I love the way you "make up" "imagine" negative personality characteristics/beliefs/motives to attribute to my user name/penguin character.

To be fair it did happen when setmefree first came to the board. Although a lot of the time she was completely wrong, would always be backed up by friends from other boards.
However she has got a lot better recentlyunlike some of the others who also come here!

As I said last night I thought thats what MSE is all about, ways to save money on some things so you have more to spend on others.BACKFRMTHEEDGE wrote: »To be honest I find this thread interesting but generally some posters seem like ex alcoholics or ex smokers - they have seen the light and now they are fervent in their money saving - like converts to some wacky religion....0 -

Funny you should say that but that's pretty much what I said to Looby last night about some of the posters on here.
Sadly there really are some nasty pieces of work!
What the bloody hell is the problem - Looby's daughter is obviously not starving herself and it's great that she has learnt these budgeting and cooking skills so that she can survive healthily within her means!
If people don't want or need to do that that is their prerogative but don't put our children down who do want to eat healthily and cheaply.
What is wrong with that?!
I'm also wondering why some haven't yet found the exit button?!Here dead we lie because we did not choose
