just ordered one off ebay for 3.99 - posted early Oct0

Adapters will be coming on ebay soon too, cheap as chips. I've just got the iPhone 5, and I really like it - no probs so far, and as I've always had Nokias I'd have had to change all chargers etc too.0

The previous connector was far too big, but it's disappointing that Apple didn’t fall into line with other manufacturers and use micro-USB. Most modern phones now use micro-USB for charging, meaning that all chargers are the same. This means that eventually chargers will no longer be bundled with phones, as consumers will be able to keep the same charger indefinitely rather than needing a new charger with every new phone. Not only is this more environmentally friendly as it reduces wastage, but it’s also cheaper for phone manufacturers. Apple has gone the other way and put profit (the ability to rip off consumers on accessories) ahead of the more practical and environmentally friendly trend being followed by other manufacturers.
What practical advantage does the Lightning connector give consumers over micro-USB?0 -
Apple still trying to be different.. no micro USB as everybody else, nano SIM instead of micro SIM everybody else uses.. Looks like more and more compatibility issues. And hadrer for those with Apple products to move onto different platform, but that's the idea, isn't it? Especially now when Apple is falling behind.0

Having said that, I liked HTC's "extUSB" - you could plug in an extUSB cable to get all the cool things, but an ordinary Mini-USB would still fit in and charge.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -

If you go through the reasoning, Apple wanted audio/video out on the port, microUSB doesn't do that. To retain full functionality of the old fitting they had to design a new fitting.
You can buy an adapter to use microUSB cables if you want to use them for charging and data transfer.====0 -
The new charger is really nice, although it is annoying that now I only have one charger (have multiple cables around the house so can charge in almost any room). I don't have any other accessories to use with it though so I guess I'm lucky.
OP I can't believe you missed out all the moaning last week and didn't know about it though before you went to buy it!
This article (warning, Daily Mail!) implies that there won't be any third party cables available for lightning due to a chip in the cable.
I'm not too fussed. I just love my new toy :-)0 -

The iPhone 4 was the first to use the micro sim which others then followed.0 -

It's a European Standard, so impossible for any company to patent.
