iphone 5 charger!
I went to go and get a iphone 5 on contract and I could not believe it - they have chaged the charger! So now none of my docking stations in my house will work with it. My in fitted car charger dock will not work and I will have to carry yet another different charger around.
I thought it was the same as the Samsung/ Kindle charger....but no.
All I can think is this is a money maker for Apple so they can bring out new docks and accessories that use the new port.
Pretty annoyed.
So didn't buy the phone. I will keep with what I have got already.
What are peoples views?!

The official response is that it has been changed so that the phone could be made thinner.
Of course, if I were in any way cynical......a charge of £25 for an adaptor might seem like a bit of a moneyspinner for Apple. I'm sure that there'll be some cheaper ones on the market soon enough though. It usually doesn't take long for Deal Extreme (and the likes) to catch on and start knocking them out for a quid or so.0 -
This is precisely why I will not be buying an iPhone 5! I have perfectly working items which I can dock my current iPhone into, which I cannot justify replacing whatsoever and like you I believe that it's simply a money making ploy!0

The abundance of accessories that support the standardised dock on iDevices is one big reason I bit the bullet and finally got an iPhone when the 4 came out. Fortunately I have only got round to buying one actual accessory that relies on it, and never use it anyway - no use of a speaker dock now that I have an AppleTV and fully working Home Sharing set up.
I think Apples point is really that wires are almost redundant; everything can be done wirelessly now, and a large proportion of their customer base is already wise to this. The lightening port allows for a thinner phone, smaller other devices in the future and also has the potential for faster wired transfer speeds (USB 3 support possibly).
It won't be long before devices designed to fit either dock become available - but Apple has already said that they won't be making their own universal dock compatible.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
Its not because of it being thinnner at all. I am so annoyed. iphone 4 now and then my next will be a Samsung I think. At least they use the same charger as many other companies such as Amazon for the Kindle.
What a shame.3 Children - 2004 :heart2: 2014 :heart2: 2017 :heart2:

Isn't this just evidence of the mindless non-moneysaving mentality of most of the early adopters - they actually know nothing about it (eg the well publicised change of plug) - they have to have it regardless of cost and inconvenience
Well done for saying 'No'0 -
I think the man in the shop was a bit taken back that my reason was that. It was hard having it in the box in front of me; but that is just stupid to me.3 Children - 2004 :heart2: 2014 :heart2: 2017 :heart2:

To be fair, they have had the same connector for over 10 years - how many times have Samsung etc changed since then?Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0

My upgrade is due in October and I've been offered a free upgrade to the iPhone5 on a monthly contract £5 less than my existing one.
I currently have the iPhone4 which serves me well and meets all my needs so I'd been weighing up the pro's and cons for a while but the clincher has been the connector change. I can't see how I can justify making the move to the iPhone5 when it's going to cost me in terms of replacing my accessories. I am aware there is an adapter but I'm not sure I want to trust adding another point of failure between my phone and accessories.0 -
It's just a matter of days/weeks before ebay will be full of chargers and adaptor from The People's Republic of China for 2 quid. The genuine ones will be made there too.. probably in the same factory lol
