I seem to spend half my life explaining to my daughter the difference between need and want!

I want to go on holiday but I need to pay the house insurance.

    Sigh......

Now that is a post i agree with. not quite sure how some people think they are entitled to a loan, might be the credit history is squeaky clean they think lenders should bow to them.

Yeah I am working on improving my credit report and history, made good strides towards paying stuff it off this year. I don't intend to ever take a loan again well obviously a mortgage when I am older but I am 23 now and have a default which will expire in 4 years and 1 month, thanks to this forum it showed me that loans espeially "consolidation loans" lead to more debt and makes it worse.

Saving is the way forward! I managed to save enough to take my girlfriend to Paris for 3 days for her 21st and Xmas in December, without this forum I would have never been able to do that. It really has made me wise up financially.

I did that with barely any income you have a job! I think you could save for a car!

Well no, it's not essential to anyone on the outside, but to me it is if you see what I mean.

I'd love to have the means to save up for it. If I'd never racked up the damn credit cards I'd have limit left to whack the costs on them.

Do you like to show off your car in car parks with other like minded people at night? You sound like you want a music system in the back.

In my experience being solvent is more of a f***y magnet than some ponced up car I cannot afford. That said I'm probably a lot older than than the OP and not as impatient, but the like-minded wife is waiting for me to finish work:)

I don't know about pimping your ride but I do know that you'd be a lot more solvent if you put ANY spare cash towards paying off your credit card debts. At the rate you're paying, (minimum payment each month on 3 cards) you'll still be in debt when you're driving around at 7mph on a mobility scooter.

A pretty car is all very well but is it really worth having a lifetime of debt for?

    this is great!!

i know what position your in and its not great!!

when i passed my test, i HAD to have a civic, it HAD to have alloys, roll cage, buckets, exhaust, coilovers, bigger brakes etc, Hated its colour so i hit it with rattle cans and did satin black! looked cool and i had a lot of respect for it, even had a Jackson racing super charger and custom map! cost me thousands and realistically, i recon it took me till about 4 years to pay it back! it was all insured with a specialist insurer too which cost me a fair bit!

that was 10 years ago, now i have a powerful jag sat on the drive (owned outright) and a nice few year old economical mazda 6 diesel (2 years left to pay on it) and i kick myself for being so stupid years ago!

Cars were my life too, but now i have a house, family, and a career and these to me are my life! next to no debt left now!

p.s. if you have some money left you wish to throw at your car, (and your insurance company will accept it) i can remap your cars ECU to give you a little (up to 30%) more power and better economy!
