This sort of thing annoys non disabled people

Really. Have you suffered from short term memory loss for long?As expected the one sided, Us vs Them attitude.
Not once did i say the disabled cannot use their cars. Not once did i have a pop at the disabled. Not once did i criticise the disabled.
or maybe this will jog your memorySo i ask why does a blue badge owner automatically get free parking in prime locations whereas every one else forks out up to £20 a day.
or thisWould be financially broken if you had to pay for parking, servicing, tax and indeed the car itself like Joe Public.Seems having a blue badge is a great away to avoid commuting on public transport, having the car comfortably outside the office and best of all FREE.
You know this person? You can categorically say they have no disability which would allow them the benefit of a blue badge? Ever heard of hidden disabilities?Perhaps the straw that broke the camels post was watching the lady earlier this morning walk up West Regent Street with 5 Argos bags, plump them in the boot, remove the blue badge and off she went. Clearly abusing the system.
You see it is the above quotes that are "the sort of thing that annoys disabled people".To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

It seems unfair to expect Blue badge holders to pay for convenient parking.
They have had the choice of parking in cheaper spaces, either out of town or further away from town, taken away from them by their disability.
It can be almost impossible for them to use public transport.
Often the only way they can get to the bank/solicitor/shop is to park almost outside.

'indefinite' means that.
It means that there is no predetermined end to your award.
Your condition can be redetermined at any time.
Then why was I told in 1994 that I was 'Disabled for life' ?
I even have it in writing amongst the paperwork up in my loftThe DWP = Legally kicking the Disabled when they are down.0 -
As someone who is disabled and who has a Blue Badge, I dont mind paying for parking so long as the disabled spaces are close to where I wish to go. But thats just me.It seems unfair to expect Blue badge holders to pay for convenient parking.

You are right. I think most disabled people are not against paying for parking, but if it is offered then it will be gratefully accepted. If it's not offered, then those who have blue badges will be grateful of the fact that they don't have to park miles away from where they are going.Invalidation wrote: »As someone who is disabled and who has a Blue Badge, I dont mind paying for parking so long as the disabled spaces are close to where I wish to go. People need to understand that there is no guarantee of free parking other than on yellow lines where there are no other restrictions, or in on-street parking bays (though these may be time limited). Many of these could be away from the town centres and so not suitable for disabled people.
Everything else (off street parking, car parks etc) is at the discretion of the local authority.
If people are genuinely unhappy with the free parking that LA's may offer to the disabled, then take it up with the LA.To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

Blimey, I thought DT was bad enough with the roasting that Baby Boomers have been getting! I think this thread is a great example of others not having any idea what life can be like, unless they have experienced the same discomfort, pain and agony that life can bring to so many unfortunate people.
There are always going to be those that "borrow" other peoples BBs, and those that don't seem to be disabled - and may not be. There will always be those that claim HB and then ask why they should declare an inheritance! We don't know everything about everyone else and nobody knows everything about any of us.
I'm sorry if anyone over 65 feels cheated as they don't have a mobility element linked to AA. I felt miffed that they made the cut-off point for Married Couples Allowance where one spouse had to have been born before 1935, and my DH missed out by a couple of years or so. My nephew felt miffed that he was born at 5 past midnight on 1st September, and had to do an extra year at school!
My DH, who is physically disabled, and now sadly has Alzheimers, cannot be left alone for 5 seconds. I don't get CA, cos I get SRP, but those are the rules, and have been under this, and the last Government. I don't "keep an eye" on him, but have to watch him like a hawk.
For people who get cross when they see BB holders enjoying free parking, I'm sure the majority would wilingly pay the parking fee if they could be without their disabilities.
And BTW, the poster that bragged about coming to this country because the benefits are better, and then made a nasty remark, got my back up too! People who have paid the tax and NI they were asked to, year in year out, decade after decade, into the UK Piggy Bank, are not bathed in rays of sunshine with happy smiling faces, when they read about the Bank getting raided with remarks like the poster made.

She is off 2 Australia for 5 months travelling, boasting about still getting whatever benefits she gets, and to top it off the only reason she's coming home in 5 months time is to, wait for it............
exchange her mobility car for a nice shiney new one!!!!
Then she's planning to go back out to oz for another 5-6 months after that!
She is (or will be) committing benefit fraud.
DLA has a 'normal residence' test.
If she has not lived in the UK for 26 of 52 weeks, she will fail this.
In some cases, DLA (care component) can be paid in other countries, but not australia.0 -
QUOTE::::I appreciate she has health problems (CF) , and later in her life she will be unable to work & require the benefits she currently gets, which at that point I fully agree she should get these. But if she can manage to work full time as a nurse earning good money, enough to afford her to take a year out living the high life in Australia, then why is she still able to claim these benefits? Many others much less fortunate than her struggle to get these benefits!
Its time the government sorted this out, I'm all for helping out people who are in need of assistance. It should be means tested though, and people with conditions that can deteriorate rapidly, closely monitored, and benefits assessed/adjusted to meet their basic needs accordingly.
I'll add before the snipers comment. I am not in any way jealous of this woman, I have a nice car, holiday twice a year ect. So nobody can accuse me of being jealous of the points I've highlighted. I just think she is taking advantage of the system & flaunting it!
.......The problem with CF is she might not be around later in life to enjoy anything.
It is a life threatening disease and she could deteriorate at anytime. Im sure you are not privvy to all her daily problems with this disease and some people are very good at hiding daily struggles, working or not.0
