  • OK. I've arranged an appointment for Friday to pop in for a chat with Child & Co. What is the service difference to Drummonds - any views as to why you would go for one over the other? Note: I qualify for very basic private banking (£100k+ salary) but nowhere near the stratosphere of Coutts, etc...

I’m thinking of closing this account as I don’t use it at all. I’m interested though whether there’s anyone who didn’t get this account just for the fancy cheque book and card.

How did you get on with your chat?

I got it for the fancy cheque book and card. I can flash them around and pretend I'm rich beyond my wildest dreams, when infact I'm just a pauper.

That would only have any effect on the few shopkeepers etc. who are familiar with Child and Co. As most of the population have never heard of them, you'll be flaunting the card and cheque book in vain.
  • I got on really well. The dedicated relationship manager is excellent and very responsive to requests to help with banking. In effect, a relationship manager should face into what would otherwise be complicated bank processes - which the relationship manager does extremely well. Nothing is a problem, the branch is lovely and to have one point of contact is great - I simply phone directly if I ever need anything. I even get offered silver service tea when I pop in - not bad for a colonial like me!
  • I no longer have my Child & Co account after my banking relationship with RBS broke down last Autumn. They closed all my RBS accounts including my Child & Co account.

No more flashy card and cheque book.

Never mind though as I do all my banking with Starling and Monzo now and with Lloyds and TSB as back up accounts.

An update as it is approaching two years since I opened my Child & Co a/c.

I have been rather unimpressed. All correspondence is from one of the CSCs, not always the same one. Obviously one only gets proper service (from the branch) if one is very wealthy.

I have not called into the branch in person, and not used any cheques. The cheque book said on the cover "Your attention is drawn to the important notes inside". There are no notes (important or not) anywhere - not inside nor on the front or back, so I have no idea what they say!

I gave up and did a CASS to Bank of Scotland!

I got this account a few weeks ago and it is really nothing special at all. I think i'll end up moving back to Nationwide, or using this as a transfer account.
I got the Child's debit card, the Reward Black. So far the website and app are really not as functional as Nationwide. plus they didn't even send me a debit card, one hadn't been automatically ordered lol so all in all not great.

Did you go into the bank to open, or did you open the account online?

I opened it online and selected the 15-80-00 branch as the branch. it did result in the Childs blue standard debit card but mine is RBS branded.
