An energy revolution - Smart meter technology

I still think you are missing the point. There is no need for all these complicated x, y and z calculations or analysis. " Real - Time " displays give you the ability to watch your money being burnt, precisely. You are making it far more complex than it needs to be. The average consumer doesn't want complexity? They want simplicity.
No. I'll have a wander. :rotfl: But this is what you said in your post.
On the contrary ... the calculations are simply there to attempt to convey that, particularly in the case of gas usage, the added complexity is provided by the monitor ... as long as you know what the cost of your heating was as a total for yesterday, you can estimate that, as long as the ambient temperature is similar and the heating controls are untouched, the total cost for heating will be the same today, tomorrow and the next day. The only way to effect this is to either reduce the length of the heating cycle or reduce the temperatures settings on the thermostat and the TRVs.
In terms of moneysaving, because there are comparatively few gas appliances when compared to electrical, there is very little benefit to be gained from a using remote gas instantaneous display ..... there is absolutely nothing you can do to stop the boiler from working the way that the boiler works .. it starts, it provides heat, it modulates, it stops .... if you know what you paid for the heat yesterday and believe it's too high, you simply make the decision to live in a colder house. Knowing that the heating is costing you x at one moment in time and y at another and z at yet another is meaningless - it provides no benefit and it is this which is introducing complexity ... it is the total cost of heating which you need to know and that's what everyone is trying to convey ....
Whole house electric spot monitoring is better as it actually can provide a benefit through adding awareness of power consumption of various devices in the home ... it will allow you to better understand which items are consuming electricity as you start to 'hunt' for the appliances which are on. However, as has already been raised a few times, the spot power consumption of an electrical device does not normally reflect it's actual energy consumption .... to do this you will need to meter the energy consumed over a period of time and will therefore need a plug-in monitor to test individual items, one at a time ....
Regarding "But this is what you said in your post" ... I know and understand what was written, however, if you are content to misunderstand the post then I cannot do anything about it apart from requesting that you simply re-read, consider, and attempt to understand the meaning ....
I really do hope this post helps, it is meant to, as are the posts by others who are attempting to convey the same points .... simply watching "your money being burnt" saves you nothing, it's what you do about it which makes a difference ...
