Currently I've got two adult cats (both around 6 Kg)and an adolescent kitten that eats more than either of the two big ones, despite him being a looooong and skinny object. One of the big ones eats only dry cat food, the other eats a mix of wet and dry and Mad Kitten only eats wet.
I've started buying the big cans of Whiskas, the % ingredients on the back of the tin look identical to the standard sachet Whiskas and a 50p tin holds about four sachets so less than half the price of sachets. Currently Tesco is selling 2 x 6 tins of this for £6 so it's not much more than the supermarket brands. So the wet food eaters get a tin of this between them. For dried Fussy Cat will only eat Purina One, it's normally £10 for 3kg of this. Mixed Food Cat likes it too so that's what I buy. A bag lasts about a month I think.
So for the three of them it's (30 x 50p) £15 for wet food and £10 for dried per month. £25 in total. Is that expensive for three cats?
Incidentally 27kg /4 = four very big cats of almost 7kg each. Given that I get ticked off by the vet when either of my adult ones go over 5kg...and they are both big boned males....are you sure your cats are not (ahem) a bit too fat? Maybe one way of saving money on food would be tighter portion control? There will be a feeding guide on the back of every box or tin of cat food giving the recommended portion size per kg. I weighed out the recommended amount of dry, found a scoop that held this exactly (was a Rosemary Conley Portion Pot, lol, best use I've found yet for it!) and don't go over that amount even when the bowl is emptied. Feeding on demand and by eye usually means feeding them more than they actually need.Val.0 -
I (usually) feed my cats Feline Fayre Simply Complete Menu (hope this link works) http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/#/brands/feline_fayre_in_asda.html
It's on offer in Asda at £2.00 for a 950g bag at the moment. Not as good as the Porta, but looks reasonably ok and a lot cheaper.
*sigh* can we swap cats?
Got some of that to try the other week when I saw the offer and neither of the [STRIKE]sods [/STRIKE]darlings would eat it..... are mine particularly fussy?:mad:Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

My friends cats were fed on dry food for a couple of weeks and developed cystitisif they don't get enough wet food they can get really sick and its really painful as they can't wee!

Teddy alone is 9kg, Fred is 7.5kg , George is 7kg, Macius is 3.5kg
They are not fat, they are honestly just very big....
I remember when I took Teddy to the vets, vet picked up the basket with Teddy inside and started lecturing me on letting cats get too fat.... I said nothing... We opened the basket, Teddy started coming out slowly... took him a while..... Vet's eyes popped out and he said - Jesussssssssssssssss, what is THAT? Is THAT gonna eat me or what?
Teddy calm as anything took injections, tablets, went back into the basket....after being checked over and the vet saying he is not overweight but he never seen a cat THAT big LOL0 -
Burns - dried - chicken or fish - excellent quality, no additives. I buy mine from Animed - they don't charge for delivery either & are quite prompt. Many moons ago I used 2 feed Go-cat. Burns however - like all quality food - means less `whiffs' & less stuff in the litter department too. It's a bit bland so I recommend starting them with mixing it with whatever you are feeding them currently so they get used to it. Cured one of mines `dander/dandruff' too.

Used to buy Burns but 1) none of my 4 wanted to eat it 2) works too expensive with 4 anyway...0

Burns very kindly sent me some samples a couple of months ago:T
*sigh* - they didn't touch that either!
Honestly, what is wrong with my 2 ..... is there something in the RC that isn't in other brands? (or something not in it as the case may be)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Yes loads of things ... likely sprayed with meat digest as per the meat-flavoured corn flakes brands. Noah didn't like Burns and he was the grub king, not really that high meat content either.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
My lot ( I am now up to 6 + 2 rescues at this moment in time... ) have a mainly dry diet, I tend to chop and change as to what's on offer.
Zooplus , as you know, is good as they do trial packs, special offers etc. Make sure you are signed up for the newsletter.

They've tried most things form there, Smilla is quite a good mid-range food, you can buy a trial pack of 3 different flavours.

Also tried the Porta Finest which they all seemed to like aswell!
I will do a thread and update you all on the gang as I've not been on here for ages!Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0
