I managed to get 5 tins of pears for 15p, sadly that's all they had in stock.
I might try another store (or 2) today.
Home Bargains have tins of Sardinella's @ 4 for £1 = 25p each
Not suit everyone I suppose, but an option.
Tesco have 4 tins of chickpeas and both chopped and peeled tomatoes for £1 - East end brand = 25p per tin. Not sure if you can mix and match??

Just got back from my local tesco express.
I bought 14 tins of the 15p pears. :T
They also had large tins (538g) of grapefruit for 25p per tin. Although there were only a few left on the shelf.0 -
What a great idea! I always get a few bits for our food bank but it will be nice to be able to give something else other than value pasta, UHT milk etc. I often think it would be nice to donate some things that are 'nice' above and beyond just subsistance. But then I decide that I can help more people buying value. I'll be watching this thread with interest as it might mean I can do both!0

I make pear and blackberry crumble with blackberries I picked in the park and put in the freezer. Or you could layer up a pudding in a glass with pears, ice cream/natural yogurt and crushed ginger biscuits. Or have on cereal to boost fruit intake in the mornings!
Are the pears in syrup or juice?0 -

Last night I made pear crumble and custard, it was gorgeous! You can also make all kinds of cakes and puddings with them, the River Cottage pear and almond cake is absolutely to die for! ... recipe here:

He uses fresh pears, tinned are fine but don't cook for long as you don't want them mushy, just until nicely caramelised. You can make compote for on breakfast cereal / muesli.. make them into savoury tarts, pear and stilton for example. Make them into pear sauce (as you would apple sauce) and serve with game, you can even just blitz a full tin including the juice with some ice and maybe some greek yog and have a pear smoothie. Hope some of these are of use! The River Cottage cake really is incredible!0 -
They're in juice
