I wouldn't have thought so as it needs to be in the chiller cabinet.
Personally I try to keep added fats in my diet to a minimum (vanity reasons:o) as I do sugars etc. However if I was going to have a treat in moderation I'd rather enjoy the taste of butter than waste it on lard which I can manage without.
But each to his own!0 -

Just to reassure you all, went to Morrison's today and there was lard. Right next to dripping. Next door but one to goose fat on one side, Cookeen on the other.
We can all rest easy. Until the chest pains get us up, anywayI could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I'm convinced by the health benefits of using lard. Apparently it's as healthy as olive oil and has about the same amount of monosaturated fat. Just has a bad press. When I looked for more a few days ago (~6 may 2017) I was surprised to find that it had disappeared from local Aldi and Sainsburys but eventually found some in ASDA. Googling "lard shortage" gave some hits for times when there was a shortage in supply and lard disappeared from supermarket shelves. Is that happening again?0

Wow, five year old thread, a lot of supermarkets don't stock lard, but go to your local butcher, he is sure to have some.0

It's showing on Tesco online grocery website.0

You fry bacon & eggs in lard????? Surely you're aware of how bad that is for you?
Bacon cooks in it's own fat and eggs can be cooked without any fat at all in a non stick frying pan.
The cooking oil industry told this lie as a marketing ploy. Over a couple of decades we were convinced that lard was bad and margarine and oils were 'Heart Healthy'.
It is completely untrue. Animal products are not bad for us in any shape or form.
What might be bad for us is eating any of it in excess, eating any of it that has been pumped full of antibiotics and hormones and eating any of it that has been fed an un-natural diet.
The human body is built for animal fat and protein.
Sourcing good quality animal products is the key.0 -
Probably nowhere as bad as using non stick pans which leave petrochemical residues on your food!
Incidentally, for lard users: chips fried in lard are absolutely delicious! I no longer eat lard or bacon as am practically vegetarian now, but the flavour of lard and bacon is still imprinted in my taste buds as seriously YUMMY!0 -

I'd probably give the lard a wide berth myself for health reasons but all the manufactured spreads designed by the food nazis to make us feel like we're doing the right thing are just as bad, especially if they use palm oil, which in its unsustainable form of production is bad news for the orang utans too, whose natural habitat is being wiped out by greedy and unscrupulous growers.
And there is nothing as tasty as chips cooked in lard, but have you given peanut (groundnut) oil a try? Mmmm....:)
Just thought, don't use peanut oil if you're unsure if you or a guest has a peanut allergy, but it does taste nice.
But peanuts!?
Peanuts are bad for the human body, although Americans might want to tell you different. But look at how 'healthy' they are.
Peanuts are a legume, like soy and beans, and not actually a nut.
They are toxin laden, one of the worst foods you can eat.0 -

Lots of folk there have lost tons of weight even though eating much more fat.
Me being one of them.
I've gone back to lard and butter, full fat yoghurt and lowered carbs and have lost nearly 3 stones since January with no exercise.. Not only that, I'm no longer ill. All my illnesses have disappeared (more or less) and I've dropped all the meds I was taking.
Fat = Good for us. But not if eating too many carbs at the same time.0
