How does that work?
I'm sure there were people thinking the same when you were a child. Who do you think paid for your education?!!!
And who will pay for your NHS care when you are elderly? It certainly isn't you or I as we are paying for the current pensioners (I recently paid a visit to A & E and was the youngest person in there by a good 40 years!). It will be today's young who pay for our healthcare when we're old, so least we can do is pay for their education

My word Chuckles, you're a pedant!
The OP was taking responsibility. She has punished the child, she has not tried to justify his actions. There is a chance HER NEIGHBOURS insurance HOPEFULLY WILL cover the cost of the damage which her son and her neighbours child caused - and if it covers it, that is what the premium is paid for.
(By the way the government funds education directly now and not through council tax, and in 2006-2007 Bristol council spent a net £61.7m directly on children and young people or under 23% of its spending - although of course they would benefit from other indirect spending eg leisure facilities etc)No reliance should be placed on the above.0 -
Crikey, I don't know about anyone else , but I feel like throwing some bricks of my own - at a few posters on this thread! BTW, there is a 'smacking' discussion in DT at the mo, you may like to visit there... No doubt what your opinions will be on that...!
Hope all works out OP x
I am in the future you know...
...9 hours ahead to be exact !:D0 -
I have an almost 7 year old - and yes, they don't always think of the consequences for their actions!!!! It's refreshing to see that the OP acknowledges that the parents are responsible for resolving the situation!! The finer detail of how they resolve this is their business!!! If you pay an insurance policy..and it does cover such incidents...then yes you should claim.
The fact that the lad was so upset and obviously told the parents what had happened, shows that he's a decent kid - lots of kids/parents wouldn't care less!!!!!!!!!
As for the view that 'everyone else ends up paying extra' - that's life!!! I've never had to claim on my house insurance...but accept that other people will have had to claim, which may increase my next year's premiuim slightly. I would expect to be able to claim if I needed to!!!!!!
Wouldn't it be great if we were all as perfect as some posters!!!!!!!;)20p Saver Club #33 60p/£100

Remind me whose money they spent? You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky
Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.0 -

My parents paid for my private education thank you very much.
And I have a private health care plan that I pay for so any care I need as an OAP is covered. By me.

once again, what started out as someone asking for help and advice in a money-related matter has been HIJACKED by some self-righteous b*****d's snidey comments which offer no help at all. If you can't say something nice/helpful, don't bother saying anything at all!!!

Some garages can be the biggest crooks going when it comes to repairs like this. - Going through a not too disimilar thing myself at the moment except my car was damaged. 1st question asked by all the garages I approached was "Is your insurance paying?" i.e "do I have the nod to print money!!". Drives me mad. Insist that the garages understand payment is from yourself.
Respect to you and your neighbour for taking the responsibility - many wouldn't. If your child owned up and is being punnished accordingly then thats great and can be put down to lifes experiences.
Why should (& I think it's usual) the "victim" be asked to get three quotes. My DH always takes his car to the main dealers. Why should someone have to take their car to the cheapest back street garage to suit the perpetraitor?
I think that is wrong, the "victim" is entitled to use the main dealers for their car.0
