I'm in again this month!! Been MIA for a while, not doing well with anything MSE. Just back from a short holiday that I should never have booked, but anyway..... Me and DH had lots of long chats about life, money, where we want to be etc. So, first thing's first, get the budget under control!

    zepsgal - £250

Thank you to everyone who contributes to the GC :T
Can't think of anything smart to put here...
  • Where did the week go? My first week and I failed to keep tabs of all my receipts so this is a guestimate (it is my first month so a see how it goes kind of thing) ... The approx is I can not remember the pence

    Asda - Approx £19
    Butchers - Approx £30
    Morrisons - £10.10
    Aldi - £6.51
Milk and Bread still needed this week but so far at £65.61 / £75 isn't bad considering the butchers spend will do us just short of 3 week :)

Just got my approved foods order today. £26.20 which was a bit lower than I though because a few items were out of stock. Got a brilliant lucky box with loads of lovely bits for DS's lunch box as well as some great bargains (best was 10 packs of mini naan bread for 39p and 3 Sharwoods Balti wrap kits for 1.20).
My month runs 29th Sept - 29th Oct due to pay day and we are hoping for £250. Got a big shop last week to use £5 off voucher at Mr A and to earn £5 off voucher at Mr M to use later in month.
Shouldn't need anything but some Mr A super 6 fruit this week fingers crossed !
Seems like a tough budget month for everyone so best of luck to all.

    PP xx

Small spends today £6.79 wanted some mushrooms for a stir fry tonight and brought a few other items as well. Also 60p was on a 1st class stamp

Good to see some new faces and also those like me who have recently rejoined after some time away. Hope we all do well and between us manage to beat the supermarkets at their own game. Good luck everyone. x

My month doesn't officially start until Friday but I thought I'd start today :) £14.95 spent on some essentials. Whole milk for the baby, cucumber, lettuce, beans and the like.

I've discovered that home bargains do tins of beans 4 for £1. That's cheaper than the value ranges which are 4 for £1.26 I think. I do stock up on Branson when they're on offer for £1 though.

I'm excited to do this challenge but also a little nervous!!

A small spend yesterday of £5.11, OH was craving bread & milk which somehow also morphed into needing kinder eggs as well. We also replenished our crisps stock.

Had a bit of a disaster the other day when we realised that burgers we'd bought and intended to use over a few days needed to be used the moment they were opened. I'm sure they would have been fine but Mr Merle is uber fussy about such things so that was that. Must remember to read packaging more carefully and keep on top of such things - there's really no way round his fussiness, so best to just use things up asap... I really need more practice at this(!) but it would be a lot easier if he would eat leftovers... argh! Got quite a battle on my hands! But I will persevere!

Oh dear - I hope I have done the right thing. I have taken note of the iminent price rises over the next few months, and ordered some extras this week on my weekly shop at Asda. 2 pork joints, 2 lamb joints, chicken, chicken pieces and loads of herbs. I Hope I have done the right5 thing - it will bring me very close to my budget, if not slightly over. I am also looking at approved foods this week, to get some dry stores in to save for the future.

Massive (and I really mean massive!) shop from tesco today! Spent about £200/£450 already  But have a lot of food in and still plan to come in under budget. This month we are trying a lot of tesco value products to see what we think.... Is there a thread or anything about the best/worst value/basics/smart price products? Obviously it all comes down to personal taste but it might help.....
