  • Hi everyone.
Just updated my signature to reflect yesterdays food shop. I spent a little more than i had hoped.
  • First spend of Oct budget today. Attempting another new approach. :D Have got a budget of £150. Have taken £140 out of the bank. Have split this into 2 x £40 and 2 x £30. (have left £10 in bank as back up) I have never attempted a weekly grocery budget before as i always thought one biggish shop and smaller weekly top ups works best as it keeps me out of the shops, but never get enough stuff to last the month so end up going back to the shops and going over budget. As i spend £80 - £100 in the first week then the £50 never lasts the next 3 weeks.

So started this week with a £40 budget, have spent £21.18 including 2 x sat papers (not cheap) and extra lotto ticket for the roll over. well you never know. :D

Hi there EverTheOptimist - I'm very interested in how you get on with this approach. I hope you will update regularly on how it goes. I know a couple of people have switched to weekly and it really works for them.

    Best of luck

PS tessiebear - I hope the family are on the mend and you're staying well

  • Hello again - I've been here before and dropped out a couple of times previously. Now the purse strings are being pulled so tight they are screaming its time for me to get the food budget well and truly on track and I would really like to rejoin.

Tried hard last month to start off again and did quite well so this month I'm aiming for £100 budget for Oct

Have been for the weekly shop this morning and end of month stock up and spent £34.66. This leaves me with just over £21 for the remaining 3 weeks - who knows if I will make it? I'll try hard and see if I can come in close either just over or under is fine

£200 again for me please - I am not brave enough to drop it just yet but that will most likely be a new year challenge! it's basically £50 per full week in the month for 2 adults, 2 cats and a dog, all household food, drink, toiletries and cleaning products for almost all meals but not including one takeout per week and one eat out per week and occasional lunch out.

Suffolk lass - I changed from monthly to weekly for exactly the same reason and now wouldn't go back to monthly!! It helps if you start with well stocked cupboards and then all your doing is topping up weekly - I find it far easier to control what we are spending [DH would like a say in it but hey ho he doesn't lol] We have more money to take advantage of offers if they are nearer the end of the month too :]]

Welcome and Hi to all the new people joining us - lots of lovely people on here so ask lots of questions and check out the recipes on page 1 that Rosieben collects for us

  • Done the shopping at Aldi and B&M today as I only needed F&V and a few toiletries, cereal bars, squash and pop. I ended up spending £15.81 altogether includiing shampoo and conditioner, handwash and face cream. I have meal planned for the week so will be trying to use up bits in the freezer and cupboards.
Might need to get a carton of soup from the corner shop as they don't sell them anyone at Aldi but they're on offer for around a £1 so be a budet buster!

I didn't join last month's challenge as we were on holiday but I am back with a vegence this month:)

A few things have changed since my last challenge; one of my dogs now lives with DMIL so I only have one dog to feed. I do keep buying the same amount of food though so I have ended up with about 6 weeks worth of tins for him:o Our freezer in the garage was turned off accidently by DH when we went on holiday. We didn't lose too much and have decided to do without it for now to save on the fuel bills. Finally, DS has been out of nappies for 2 weeks and is doing brilliantly, he even had a dry night in underpants last night. He is not quite 2 and a half so I am really proud of him:D

My budget for this month is £400 and runs from 20th September until 21st October and includes all food, dog stuff, household, laundry and toiletries but not alcohol. I have spent over half my budget already but have a fair bit in stock.

I do need to spend another tenner on meat in M&S (their sausages are GF and very tasty) today/tomorrow.
    Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
    Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
    Make £2021 extra income - £99.75
  • So (hanging head in shame) I've massively fallen off the wagon in September. Just this weekend I've spent an extra £30 already on goodies - it's all lovely food but mostly unecessary.

The problem is I'm back at work, rushed off my feet and exhausted so reaching for convenience food so spends have gone up. Went shopping hungry last night and since then I've eaten the better part of an entire tub of cherry garcia just because of being so tired.

Really worried about letting this cycle continue but also I'm so short on time that I don't know how I'm going to find the time to prepare cheap food at home. Feeling a bit lost really!

Can you put me down for a budget of £200 for October please and I'll try again (she says with uncertainty!)
